Not at all. Those keepers are used to playing in Europe usually the champions league and are usually established internationals(in the case of costa), playing at the top of those leagues under intense pressure and scrutiny(for likes of Porto) is far more difficult than knocking about in front of 20,000 fans at turf moor in the championship. Mentally alone its a completely different ball game. Those keepers generally havent flopped in the past and regardless of his age Traffords first season in the prem was a flop. Big money, lots of mistakes and ultimately relegation. Not necessarily his fault but he has played a part.

Im not saying Trafford is or isnt the answer, I dont know but regardless its a huge risk. Someone mentioned this is our new transfer strategy and that does seem to be the case but it also means we are gambling on whether we will compete or not which considering where we were two years ago is a massive change in mentality for everyone at the club inc us fans.

Presume you said the same about Doku, savinho, Reis, Khusanov who all were unproven and didn’t play at the highest level
May I remind you of Onana who played for both Ajax and InterMilan. Rather undermines your theory

Yes and now witha. new keeper they will also press the keeper.....so not a great idea.

Id rather put our energy and money into buying another top class centre half and a right back which we are in dire need of

A new keeper is not a priority - right back and centre half are
Ederson spent a lot of last season injured and if he doesn't leave this summer it'll be next, as seems he's ready for something different. We're going to need a new keeper soon and if everything falls into place this summer, then we should do it. We've got Dias, Gvardiol, Ake, Khusanov and Reis for centre half, even assuming Stones and Akanji move on

sorry maybe im not understanding your point? What theory?

The above poster was saying that Trafford doesn’t have the experience at the top level. I’m saying we’ve signed loads of players like that and we aren’t a club that just buys ready made world class players

Course it matters and you cant use the example of one flop to completely disregard basic KPIs for judging a footballer.

I can, because Trafford might be that one that comes from where he's at and is good. The club have monitored him, he's been with us. They know what they're talking about, not us on BM

Personally think this is all bollocks. Eddie and Ortega staying. City imo would rather keep ed for the season than to cash in for 3mill

All depends on Ederson really, We all know Pep won't stand in the way of any player that wants a move.

It's clear that Eddie wants to leave a couple of seasons now, That's why I think he'll leave.

£3m is an absolute joke, I know he's in the final year of his contract but that price is atrocious.

Need foreign players off the books for CL, English replacement who loves the club for a foreign player who has a year left, does in fact make perfect sense imo

Thats a different point to the one you made initially. Phillips was experienced and was a flop, there are loads of examples of experienced players who are flops, it doesnt mean we shouldnt sign experienced players. There are very few players in the world who go from one season prem flop to a brilliant season in the championship and then becomes a key player in a team that wants to win everything instantly. Cant think of a single one. I cant think of a single player who goes from the championship to even winning the prem or champions league the very next season. Ian Maatsen nearly did it at Dortmund recently. Raphinha had a year in the prem smashing it. There the closest off top of my head in recent times.

“Trafford might be the one…” is the key, he might be he might very well be but as i have said many times already its a huge gamble. We want to be the best team in the world, the very best, taking a gamble on such an important postion is not something i would do. Too many unknowns here. Any other position and its not a debate. If he comes in as no2 then we are laughing, as a number 1 it doesnt feel the wisest decision.

@CityRabin on Twitter has done a super analysis of the merits of Ederson, Costa, and Trafford.

€3mill is low and maybe it’s not even true, doubt it is, seen 3, 7 and 10 all mentioned maybe €7 mill is the compromise, but if he wants to go and that’s the price not bothered really not my problem and if the club are happy with it fair enough.

Hate to be a spoilt sport but he's not a City fan btw. Grew up a Chelsea fan. Might be one now though in the way Carragher became a Liverpool fan due to being at their academy etc.

Well we ain't going to see any of the money anyway so means fuck all for us supporters unfortunately, If City want to split the Ederson fee between myself and yourself then that's a different ball game!
