Jan Vertonghen

Lescott is currently a better defender in the Premier League than Verthongen is in the Erdivise.

Nowhere near as good on the ball but currently miles better as a defender.
This is a fallacy. Lescott is an average defender on a great team. JV is a good defender on a poor defensive team.

Garbage.

Some of the biggest cock ups in Ajax defence have come directly from Vertonghen mistakes or errors of judgement & others because he's gone racing off down the pitch & given the ball away trying a stupid pass (see Man Utd).

Lescott has been a much better defender against much better players.

This is a useless argument with Dax as Vertonghen is quite blatantly his Son or his Husband or quite possibly both such is his unshiftable love for this guy

saw this during halt time of the feyenoord game, great goal

Fantastic if we're signing him for his goal scoring exploits :P Though he does seem to score a few doesn't he?

Dax, if you're not actually Vertonghen yourself, which is a distinct possibility at this point ;) who would be your top CB target this summer? Not who we would be most likely to actually sign, who would you go all out for to replace Lescott? (Someone I agree needs replacing if only for Europe alone).

Hummels, if I thought we had a chance of getting him. Vertonghen, because I am certain we will get him if we tried or wanted him.

Hummels has no reason (in my opinion) to want to come to City. He is German, he plays on one of Germany's top 2 teams (and likely Bundesliga Champions), He will be in the Champs league. He is already a National team starter, he is one of their star players, the club doesn't need money (I.e. this is not like the Valencia/Silva situation). And City is not a historic club that a foreign 23 yearold player might have a natural affection for.(United, Barca, and Real) are pretty much the only 3 clubs with that history of attraction.

So City's only advantage might be excessive wages. Just don't think a 100 weekly paycheck (i.e.no more that Kompany will be making) will attract a guy like Hummels, unless he currently makes under 50k a week or something. There is no interest here.

Vertonghen on the other hand, has publicly stated he intends to leave at the end of the season. His favorite destination? A top team in England. His Club, Ajax, is a selling club. His manager has blessed his move to bigger things. In order words, this is a straight forward deal. At most will cost 15 million and could be as low as 8 million. This is a deal City should make.

I think Vertonghen would be a brilliant signing. Belgium have some of the best young players in the world and having such a strong Belgian connection could help us bring some of these players in.

Also playing week in week out for club and country would make a really tight pairing at the back which would be great for us.

If we couldn't get him then I agree RE Hummels as mentioned above, or Thiago Silva.

Vertonghen represents much more value for money however IMO.
