January predictions

How about replacing tevez with someone who is English and knows his way around the English premier penalty boxes come on down Darren bent tailor made with all the supply we have,I know people will say he is not world class but how many goals could this guy score for us? Blue moon I saw you standing alone

City's need it seems to me, are at Centerback, and Out wide. I consider Nasri, SIlva, and Milner as our in-between players. who bring continuity, creativity and drive to the City offense in midfield. The City defensive part of midfield can be well managed by Barry, Nigel and Hargreaves (In the absence of Yaya). AJ and Balo are our wild cards, and Aguero/Dzeko our strikers.

Knowing the above, City's has 2 areas where improvement via acquisition can be made. At CD, we can improve ball distribution and movement from that area (Savic is capable, but his defending is not up to par yet, and Rekik is a bit young even though he looks like a stud). The second area of need is offensive speed. We don't have a player with lightout speed of the Lenon, Bale, or the kid at Arsenal variety. Which will be a good option to have on the bench. Thus,I would look to find a speedy wide player.

That need for a speedy wide player is really In case we suffer injury to either Clichy or Richards and need to have an attacking player with speed to make up for what they normally bring or if they are rested. These too are the keys to our wide play. And as good as Kola/Zab are, they don't bring the same offensive cohesion or threat that these two possess.

Thus, if I were the Brain thrust for the January transfer, I'd look to transferring Kolo to PSG, Tevez to someone. Kolo because he wants to start, and his abilities are dwindling, but we can get good money for him if the PSG rumors are true. And thus I will not hesitate to make that trade. In his replacement, I'll bring in who we should have gotten in the summer to start with- Vertonghen. He is available, will be around in January, and can improve the need for a great passer from the CD position, as well as play DM. LB or LM if injuries occur.

Which leaves us with only one other area of improvement from the outside. Speed! We have it at fullback, and when both are on the pitch, we probably don't need it anywhere else. Butin the even that one or both are either not available or are being rested, we need a player (not a fullback, but preferably I wide player) who can replicate that edge in front of Zab or Kolarov. My preference or best option out there is probably Lavezzi (as he is also versatile) but Lavezzi is not an option since he is still in the Champs league (one of the misfortunes of not making the 2nd round). Hoilett may be an option, or we could look to the second tier or Eastern Europe to find a player. The key here is that we are not looking for a pre made star. Just someone with certain qualities that we presently lack.

In essense, if we can't find that player, I will just stop at bringing in Vertoghen, selling Toure and Tevez. And continue to work on getting loanies off the books.

so basicly you agree with what i said on the previous page as reus and vertonghen as reus as reus is 22 year old with pace basicly unknown really and a great wide player and can also play as a cf also.

YES! Except for Reus being unknown :) I think he is quite well known. And an addition of Reus and Vertoghen will pretty much be a Gold Standard January bonanza win for us

You do realise that Lavezzi wouldn' have been able to play for us in the knockout stages had we made them anyway right?

Such a non-post.

Not sure that was the point being made. More a case of why would he want to leave a team in the champions league for one that isn't?

I am not sure we need a centre back.
Our first choice are Kompany & Lescott and the backups are : Kolo, Savic, Nedum & maybe Richards can play there as well.

Well kolo is off to Acon throughout jan and could possibly be sold. Ned looks like he'll be sold as well. Savic is a little inexperienced and richards is our best option at right back so we wouldn't want him at CB for a prolonged period. Having said that i think if we let nedum go then we should be alright till the end of the season, but i wouldn't be surprised to see mancini sign a CB.

Only problem with january is that the top players aren't available and there's no point signing players in january when their not good enough and are only signed for 6 months. My choice would be to stick it out till the end of the season then go for Thiago Silva or Subotic.

As for the wideman/striker role i'd go for lavezzi.

One of the biggest issues facing us in jan and next summer is shifting unwanted players.

Thanks mate. I thought that was self evident. I guess not!

-- Sun Dec 11, 2011 11:27 pm --

Vertonghen is a better player than Subotic. And he is available from a selling club. Kolo is a little past it, and wouldn't be around for a month. And Savic hasn't fully developed yet. The Idea of Micah at CD, is a classic case of weakening 2 positions at once. Just buy the guy that can do the job fantastically.

As for Wide player, Reus will be my choice now. But I'd wait till the summer to pull the trigger. Perhaps sign a pre-contract now, if allowed.

Thats a good call on Zaha from the OP. The lad is got lots going for him and would certainly benefit from a move to a great coaching set up but i think he still needs another year at Palace of playing so he has a good grounding in the game
