Trouble is, Van Dijk looks like he's staying.

Trouble for us and Denayer of course. :)

I think he'll play along side VVD. Ambrose , our other central defender, has been very poor and the manager has played him at right back a few times as he's a bit of a bomb scare in the middle.

Played their whole game against Dundee as it finished 1-1. Their Dutch defender didn't play at all, so I hope he will leave on deadline day, that would mean Jason has a great chance to maintain his place in the first eleven.

Does anybody know how he did today?

Not that good but to be fair he had two players either side who have been genuinely awful since returning from the World Cup.

Did get easily out-paced in the second half once which was disappointing. I think that after the international break we will have a more settled team and you'll see him get a run of 7 or 8 games in a row where we can really judge him.

I don't agree with this assessment.

Not outpaced for a start, just made a couple of errors of judgement which led to the striker getting past him, but mainly because he was playing offside as trained at City & his partner wasn't. I think he did an absolutley fantastic job for a kid, playing in a quite awful defensive set up, with no cover in front of him, nobody to shout to him or guide him. He is basically the only decent defensive player & he kept winning balls, covering, blocking shots, under almost constant pressure for 90 mins. Certainly not outpaced. He outsprinted their strikers on several occasions.

He dropped a couple of bollocks later on, but in a proper defence, that wouldn't have happened as they would have been organised to either play offside or not. The left fullback seemed to have a nervous breakdown & Denayer was basically playing left back & left centre back for the last 15-20 mins.

All the while, he never let it get to him, & kept playing the ball with confidence.

Would not have fancied the chances of many of City's current first team squad defenders if asked to do the job Denayer had to do.

Good post Nev,it certainly pisses on the bonfires of those that accuse you of tunnel vision/unwarranted criticism regarding our kids.

It merely shows that the opinions of players are extremely biased. Thats why some scouts see something in some kids which other scouts don't.
And no im not comparing us to scouts. lol.

If a kid is doing lots of good stuff but gets a few bits wrong, that's absolutely what you would expect. If he's getting most things wrong most times you see him, that's not what you expect from a 'top prospect'.

If Denayer turns shit & Rekik turns brilliant I'll recognise & admit both.

Im not mentioning Rekik here, but i do admit i give Denayer a bigger change of making it at our club. But im just simply stating a fact pretty much.
Opinions are always biased and if you decide the player is good/bad you willl be most likely to pay attention to the stuff he does that backs up your theory.

That's not how I operate at all, never. And my opinion of Rekik was that he was gong to be world class. I have similar hopes for Denayer, but if he's a bag of shit 12 months from now I will say so, not pretend otherwise.

Pretty sick of people telling me I have some kind of bias against players tbh. Rekik was one of the young players I rated highest at our club, all I did was watch him play & evaluate what he did. If you get skinned for pace by a bang average striker & drag him down in the penalty are playing in the EDS, I see it for what it is. Shit. Not pretend it didn't happen because of a personal liking for the player. If that starts to happen to Denayer, I will say so & my opinion of his chances will change. Right now, to me, he is doing incredibly well. Not yet well enough to play for City though.

I never see what I want to see, I see what happens, good or bad.

Err, no you're not, that's still an opinion. Sorry, but I think you're confused over what a fact is.

Edit :- and opinions aren't "always biased". How do you think a scouting system would work if personal bias came into it?
