I presume it'll be the same for Lopes too? But not Iheanacho then seeing as he's been at the club for less than a year so he won't get the u21 free pass...meaning we'll need to put him in the squad if we wanna play him?

Yeah, Lopes is fine but Kelechi was 17 when we first brought him over. I presume the business of him not being able to sign until he was 18, will mean that he won't qualify for an U21 place until he's 20, but then will become a 'club trained' player at the end of the season when he's turned 21 & be able to occupy a 'homegrown' place in the senior squad.

What implications that has for him in the short term, I've no idea, because if we use him in the squad next season, he will be taking up one of the senior overseas player's places.

So maybe we won't get to see him for two years.

We might as well scrap the academy if him and lopes don't make it in the squad next season, especially as someone said the LC and FAC early rounds. Both have impressed me this season therefore at least deserve a chance.

I'm sure the 16-17 year olds will think that's a good idea to

In the case of Lopes & Denayer, & Rekik if he returns, it's not good enough just to give them cup games, they need to be full members of the squad, or sent back out. It's not fair to take them out of the Champions League & UEFA Cup & playing proper football, just so they can get splinters in their arses.

I can understand that for maybe half a season whilst they settle in, but then they need to be playing regularly for City or for someone else.

Imo, it will be a scandal if many of the kids playing in our EDS/U19s now don't get some game time next season, let alone Denayer etc.

It's not just the matter of finding them a place in the squad. We also need to ensure that they will get the game time to develop better than they would elsewhere.

I'm a big fan of Lopes and Denayer but think next season might just be too early for them. There is no point in bringing Denayer back to be our 4th choice. Give him another season at Celtic then let him replace Demichellis te following season.

The main problem we have with our youth players is that the competition in our squad is so high that's it practically impossible for a teenager to break into it. That's why we need to make the best of the loan system. Denayer is now a full international and if Lopes keeps it up then there's no doubt that he will be too.

Give our young lads some proper game time elsewhere and then bring them back when there is a role for them. There is no point whatsoever in bringing them back to play under 15 games a season when they can be getting double that elsewhere.

why send him back to Celtic? He'd come back completely unprepared for a tough, competitive league. He's meant to go away and play football, not have a holiday in the SPL.

He needs to be sent somewhere tough and tested, not given an easy job that helps make him look good. At least Lopes is having to slog it out with a load of shite at Lille and becoming a man for it.

This is nonsense.

Denayer has loads of proper defending to do playing for Celtic, actually fighting for the ball under pressure pretty much every game, winning one v ones, last ditch tackles, everything, as the way Celtic play, like City, they leave it upto the central defenders, often alone to deal with it. Our defenders have failed numerous times this season & last, against exactly the kind of bread & butter stuff Denayer faces regularly. The kind of situations he faces every game, are the very same things we fucked up vs teams like Burnley & Stoke. If he'd been playing v Burnley, he'd be out blocking both goals.

A difficult bouncing ball under pressure, is a difficult bouncing ball under pressure, whatever the league. I would trust him to deal with it, or a 1v1, better than any of our current back 4, because he does it, every game.

He has played at the San Siro with his partner sent off, & now come straight in & done it for Belgium. Excellent both times.

Because at Celtic he will get European experience and his defensive duties at Celtic will be similar to us. In the sense that most teams will put 10 men behind the ball.

Nastasic proved to be a good defender in a defensive set-up under Mancini but was exposed under Pellegrini's system.

We need our young players to learn their trade in a similar system to ours rather than to just all out defend.

If you can think of a club other than Celtic which has decent crowds, is in a European competition, plays attacking football and would allow Denayer to be a 1st team starter then I'd rather send him there. But I cannot think of any.

Correct about his time at Celtic at the very least, to suggest that the SPL isn't tough or competitive just means he's never watched it. Technically lacking yes, but the rest? Just poppycock.

Ease Denayer into things in the first half of next season. Carling Cup games, home games against the bottom 5/6 teams.

By the second half of the season, beginning of 2016, he should be our third choice CB behind Kompany and Mangala with plenty of games available.
