I rate him highly, his versatility in both CB and DM, positions both we would be taking massive gambles in this coming season, and his technical ability are boons. His price will be low, but his acclimatisation period to Pep's game borderline minimal.

The same flappers who were worried we'd get Carvalho are in making the same arguments about speed, but there's no comparison between the two. At all.

I say get it done.

His quality on the ball is great. However imo he lacks the necessary defensive skills and pace to play in defence in our league. Hopefully it's all bullshit because I just don't see this signing improving us defensively.

I did read your post, and the inference I got from it is that posters playing the speed card are flappers, because Martinez is a better player than Carvalho (about whom there was flapping for the same reason) and as a result the lack of speed common to them both will not be an issue with the former. My apologies if that is a misread on my part

The key is that his ball retention is excellent and he rarely misplaces a pass.... and we also won't play anywhere near as high next year, simply because we won't need to!

Agreed , by all accounts we will have Mendy and Walker in the team, possibly Bertrand and Alves , all quick defenders , which when covering our CB's negates the need to a certain degree of pace in the CB areas, it's all about the mix and by all accounts we are looking in shape , Martinez seemed absolutely fine in a league where fast counter attacks are the order of the day.
