Jesus Navas - 2016/17 performances

Navas was great today, I think we should renew his contract for another year at least. He probably wouldn't be best as a conventional full back but I think in a 3-5-2 formation he would be great running an entire wing back and forth, assisting the 3 CB in a defensive position while providing width when pushing forward for an attack. Navas needs a free role where he hugs the sideline and runs back and forth.

That was one of his best performances this season. I know that may not be saying much but he really can't be faulted for the performance today.

Not if we have RB's fit though. He's not a RB, so should only played there in an emergency.

He did OK, especially as he was often up against Sanchez, and given the fact he got booked early on.
Players learn new skills by training and practice so long as the requirements of the role involved is not far beyond their ability to adapt. I'd be just as concerned with Zaba coming up against Hazard. Yes I agree that Sagna would be my pick against if he were fit but Navas at RB is definitely not a crazy idea and could even turn out to be a novel idea ala Kolo at CB if work is employed in that direction

I thought he did reasonably well today considering who he was up against, but there is no way I would renew his contract on the back of one performance.

He was perfect today as a wing back, if we play him there for 3 more games and he seems very solid, I would say we should renew his contract. Its common sense.
I agree he played well, but again if we are going to improve the squad, out of contract players are the best way to move players on.

So like I've argued all season, and I see nothing changing that opinion, all over 30 players who are out of contract should moved on.

No, its time to move on with him and buy younger and better fullbacks.

I thought he was OK but perfect was not an adjective I would have used to describe his performance, he hardly dominated his opponents either defensively or in attack. He made a decent fist of a tough job, but at his age he is not one for the future.
