Jimmy & Joe To Sign New Contracts

No brainer, IMO. He will be useful well into his 30s as he is as fit as a fiddle. Plus we will be able to get a fee if we sell him.

Do you think he has the talent to be in the first XI of a champions league winning team? Is he that good? Cos if you take at face value his desire for a regular starting place in the next few years, that's what we'd have to be talking. I like him a lot, but I'm not convinced he is.

If Simon Mullock is right, in that the issue is the length of contract, then it does not matter. He's an excellent squad player. Let's not forget that we need to fulfill our obligations in relation to the HG quota. If our juniors are not good enough, then we have to pay well over the odds for a HG player from another club. I cannot think of a single HG player who would realistically be available and get into our first XI. Any HG player is likely to be a squad player at best. A very expensive squad player. It therefore makes sense to extend his contract.

Ffs just offer him the extra year and finish this subject! Both sides are covered then and get on with things.

Absolutely. If he will re-sign as a squad player i think it's 100% right we should keep him

We should let Jimmy go. Don't fall into the United trap of having to replace all our old players at the same time. Evolution not revolution.
Ok alan Partridge what do you suggest we do to replace him
Which english player shall we replace him with then? Or shall we just keep buying foreign lads until we cant physically fit them into our squad? We already are struggling with the home grown quota

We don't need English, we need home grown. Why pay all this money for the academy and have a 32 year old Milner earning 80000 a week, restricting the path of a 20 year old. If the management are honestly trying to initiate a holistic culture then signing 29 year olds on long term contracts is the wrong way to go.

Sign him! If he is still being stubborn, get rid.
We should not be held to ransom by players.

Maybe i'm just old and cynical but I reckon there's double speak being spoken from both camps. To me it seems obvious that Jimmy's made his decision and the club have made theirs. He'll move on. They'll both make noises about how they wanted it to work out and imply the other side didn't do enough or was being unreasonable.

You, cynical? Never.

Another twist to the negotiations could be that our managerial situation may have changed by the end of next season, and City will by then have an ageing squad. Any new manager will have his own ideas on rebuilding and he won't wish to be stuck with any player he doesn't fancy but cannot be moved on because of the terms of his contract. We have had enough of FFP and we will not wish to be caught up in that again, so for now the fringe players aren't likely to be in as good a bargaining position as they were when Pelly walked in through the front door.
