Jimmy Savile

The Psychiatrist Anthony Clare interviewed him, and his findings certainly give much cause for concern.
I think what is bizarre about Savile is that most predators try to blend in, whilst he did the exact opposite.
But Savile couldn't blend in. He was a flamboyant personality on the radio, on TV (both TOTP and Fix It) and he used that flamboyance in his charity work. And also of course when sucking up to royalty and politicians.
He was too well known to do charity work on the quiet, and he wanted to make a fuss about what he was doing as that gave him huge esteem at the time. That esteem, and his overall popularity contributed to the BBC's nervousness. - And he was one of their stars and they didn't want to rock the boat.
Hiding in plain site worked for him.

Couple of things from the documentary.
Michael Parkinson, Russell Harty and Richard Whitely all matey and jokey clips from their interviews with him they all have a common bond, just saying.
Andrew Neil went for him and I got the impression that he wanted to get the truth out there as Savile said earlier in the programme he used his ability at being ‘tricky’ to avoid Neil’s questioning. Very clever he truly was a master at manipulation.

The connections to Royalty are disturbing to say the least.

That Clunk Click show with Gary Glitter - good lord!

Yeah, I get that "hiding in plain sight" bit. Yet when you read about his childhood/early years he talks about going down the pit after a night out, still dressed in his finery. He removed the suit to do his work, and then changed back into it later after he finished his shift.
He came out of the colliery clean on the outside, yet dirty underneath. And he loved how people "marvelled" at it
Whether that actually happened is for a different debate, but I think it is very telling.
And I agree with you....he couldn't blend in. I think he learned that very early on, and so adopted a persona that allowed him to both stand apart and also be appreciated/applauded.
