João Félix

And if Alvarez is going to struggle for game time then felix would probably to....I love alvarez and think its a shame as he wont get much game time as his talent deserves as I dont think our system will allow us to play both him and Erling (unless Alvarez plays high and wide in the front three....he works hard as a number 10 but he wont get in there (and shouldnt get in there) ahead of KDB or Bernardo or Foden.....neither would felix

That was my point.

I also see a Jesus situation developing in the not too distant where Alvarez is concerned.

We have a lot of games to play, last season we had few long term injuries, Haaland particularly kept healthy, that may not always be the case.
As I said previously. It maybe more to fo with his character than his ability. Pep wants fighters...I don't see that in fel8x...his technical ability is not in question

Which would be unfortunate as Alvarez is by far the better finisher...if it was just him I'd argue he would probably score nearly the same as Haaland does...maybe not quite but think he wouldn't be far off

I actually think it It would be smart of him to go to Saudi for a year or two and then come back to Europe as a free agent.

He’s locked into this Atletico contract where they’re demanding stupid money and pricing him out of moves where his career could reignite.

Take a 2 year sabbatical, come back richer than god, 25 years old, confidence way up from destroying the Saudi pro league journeymen, and walk into a club that is stable, has a great manager, and plays a style of football and formation that fits him.

The way his career has gone so far though, I doubt he does that. He’ll just go wherever Atletico can loan him.

Peps got to manage Alvarez really carefully because the way Jesus’ City career went it they couldn’t have done a better job of undermining his confidence if they were trying.

Built him up massively when he first came then gave him ever smaller sub appearances, heaping on the pressure whenever aguero was injured, often saying in press conferences he had 2/3 games to show he was good enough.

By the end everyone could see him (sometimes literally) beat himself up whenever he missed a chance. Confidence was rock bottom.

I think Jesus is a bit of a sensitive character and Alvarez hasn’t shown that yet, but he needs better handling or he’ll follow the same path. Not a million miles away from what Dzeko went through a decade ago.

Prob the only way hes getting out of that contract at Atletico

He does come across as a very languid person. Plays football like hes in slippers.
You can be successful doing that of course.

TBH I thought him going to Atletico would improve his discipline, instill some grit and determination but instead he has gone the opposite way. He is now drifting through his career, he is on huge wages and atletico have a 100m transfer fee to be paid. It’s been a complete mess in all honesty.

Atletico and Simeone in particular was always a bad move for him. He was badly advised and he took a big money move that was clearly the wrong move. Now he’s trapped at a club with no obvious way out. I think the Saudi league beckons, unless Barca find another £300m down the back of the sofa.

Jesus seems to be going down the same route at Arsenal and not surprisingly for me.

He has a superb, never say die attitude, great character, great personality but at the end of the day he is not very good in front of goal and as you say has self confidence issue, which for a top striker is not acceptable.

Do the Saudis readily offer younger players 2 year contracts for the big money they would pay to tske them there?

I think this is simply the reality of playing alongside a world class striker. The only way he starts the majority of games is a Haaland injury.

Not sure, but Jorge Mendes is the Saudis official adviser and Joao Felix is a mendes client so if anyone can get a good deal it’s him.

It goes without saying that Alvarez is an immeasurably better finisher than Jesus, but to think he has the physical attributes that would lead to him posting 'nearly' 50+ goals per season returns isn't realistic.

A more rounded talent who will get minutes on his versatility; it took a few seasons for the penny to drop he is no number 9, which is what he craves

As for Alvarez, it will be win win however this unfolds, he will get that slot here if haaland moves on (that will be tested end of 3 seasons imo), if we retain the Viking, I’d say at that point we have debate to be had, however he doesn’t seem a defined striker and his skill set means he will of commanded more game time than what Jesus hoped for; could be wrong but I think he evolves into a hybrid 10, his work rate is already edging that way, getting 25 + in that guise surely covers all bases where he’ll be happy?

If Alvarez improves his passing, without doubt for me his weakest asset, he would made a superb No10.

It would be a travesty if he goes to Saudi 23 years young. He needs to develop, will probably go to Benfica on loan before that but Atlético wont let him go without a hefty loan fee or obligation to buy, looks tough.

Felix is one of those players that really need a tactical setup fully designed for them in order for their talent to be maximized, but then this takes a lot of resources and overhauling, comes at the expense of other areas and it is a far from a guarantee to having a winning team. I think he will fizzle out in a couple of years max like James Rodriguez did.

Feels like he has been around ages still got so much of career ahead of him needs to turn things around quickly. Should be able to get a move somewhere and improve. No idea what his level is now. People clearly think he is suited to us tho
