People may say he doesn't deserve any credit for sitting on the bench and not complaining, because of the money he gets for doing so, which is true to a certain extent. But, think of his career, a footballer is a shorter career than most careers, you have less time to make your mark and be a success, and, therefore, maybe you could argue he has sacraficed a better career to sit on the bench for us, which shows he may have some sort of care and consideration at this club. If it was me, I wouldn't take 50k a week to sit on the bench because I would want to play as much as possible in order to make the most of my career and gain as much honour and pride from it as possible. I'd hate to look back on my career and think, "well that part of it was quite crap because I hardly played and just sat on the bench having no impact", but now Jo may face having to do this, and not making the most of his career.
But one of the things that dissapointed me was when on the pitch, he didn't seem that keen to make things work, he seemed happy to think "This isn't working out, oh well, maybe it will next time", he didn't seem prepared to fight and work at it. Also, in his defence, Hughes did not give him enough chance in that first season, he played in about 8 games before he was sent out on loan, and even then I don't think those 8 games came in one go. If he'd had got a run in the side, in that first season, who knows, he might have gradually got better. He did all right in his first loan spell at Everton, which suggests there was clearly something there in him to work with.
I hope he does all right for himself, as long as it doesn't come back to haunt us in a game in the future. I don't know what I'd do if he ever popped up with a goal to knock us out of the CL.
