Joe Hart (continued)

You have never played in goal have you or football at all really

No but I have and I agree with him about goal 1 and 3. I can't blame him for the 2nd though.

It's a no brainer for me, there shouldn't even be a debate about who should be starting on Sunday. For me Hart's in the top 5 in the world and personally I wouldn't swap him for anybody. In my opinion he's the best shot stopper in the world and when a striker is running down one on one with Joe there's nobody better. Granted his distribution could be a little better, I don't think he see's the early ball quick enough but it's not half as bad as some would believe on here.

I just spoke with my nephew who is a goalkeeper for a Spanish second division club and who also watched the community shield (to study Willy's performance, specifically—he is also watching the Super Cup today). He felt Willy was not at fault for any of the goals. His analysis:

1st Goal: Willy moved out to the area they are taught to occupy to discourage the arrowed across the body shots that are easier to attempt from the positions the box but more difficult to save for the keeper. Unfortunately, as is the case with any position, the weakness is the very small, difficult to pick out space on the ground just to the right or left of the keeper. It is a low probability shot, as good defenders usually cut it out, but if the player gets the attempt through it is very difficult to save. He felt it is one more a product of poor defending than Willy's reflexes, which I agree with.

2nd Goal: This he felt was entirely down to our defenders, which I also wholeheartedly agree with. Boyata, surprisingly, did too badly to initially hold off Sanogo but Nastasic just jogged back with out picking up Ramsey's run and Clichy was committed enough to the covering position. Willy was left to flail.

3rd Goal: He confirmed that Willy was exactly where he should have been given the position of our line and Arsenal's players. The deflection made it a shot only the very best players in the history of the game could make without that sort of intervention. To fault Willy for not being able to save it is ridiculous, in my opinion.

This is in no way an argument that he should start over Hart but his performance in the Community Shield should not be used as an example of inferiority.

Good to see your nephew isn't part of the Keepers Union just yet then :)

Given willy hasn't kept a clean sheet all pre-season i think it's safe to say joe has the shirt for now

Well, aside from cleansheets being a poor way to asses a keeper's ability (or performances), I think arguments could be made that because both didn't necessarily have the best defence in front of them for any of the matches in pre-season, and Willy played in the more "difficult fixtures", a distinction can't really be made.

But I agree, Hart will likely start.

No problem.
Joe will definitely start on Sunday.
Pellers has brought in Caballero to provide competition and as a more than competent back up in the event of injury to Joe.
Great move by Uncle P.

Hart's decision making has to improve if he is to keep Willy out as it's the one thing that let's him down he has become far to rash and makes the centre forwards mind up for them which you can not do at the very top level
