He's been a bit of a liability for a long time now and his performances for England during the Euros were pretty awful. Club of our ambition needs to have a Gk who is at least in the top 6 in the league and I don't think we have one in Joe sadly.
I'd have to disagree. I think we're well past talking about him staying, however there is little between him, De Gea, Cech and Courtois. Certainly up until last season (inclusive), I wouldn't have taken any of them over him. Had our side been more defensive and had he played the extra games that he missed, he'd have run away with the golden glove award again. He was shit in the Euros, but so was almost everyone and that defence was bobbins at actually defending.
I see the major problem being where he can go in this country. Rags, Arsenal, Chelsea, Spurs all have top 'keepers, Liverpool have just signed 2, and it would be an insult for him to go anywhere else tbh. What's he going to do, go to Everton, West Ham, Stoke, Southampton??? Not trying to be offensive but he's put in some of the best CL performances of all time and the perfect way to ruin someone's career is for them to leave a top club, almost inexplicably, and then end up at a mid-table side.
I'd also hate to see him in this country because other people might appreciate how good he really is. I fully appreciate how he won't work in Pep's system, it's not that he can't pass a ball 10 yards, but I reckon he's a traditional 'keeper who doesn't want to see his defenders dicking about with the ball because it makes him nervous. I'm not disagreeing with Pep's system, I love it, just as a former 'keeper I know the feeling.
I also think it's best he goes (unless he wants to spend time on the bench learning the passing game), because he's too good to sit on the bench anywhere and I believe that's the message Pep is giving. Not that he thinks Willy or Willy's distribution is better, but that Joe is too good to be on the bench but sadly he's also not the right fit for his side. If he didn't rate him, he'd just bench him. The fact he wants him to move on is acknowledging his talent and wanting to see him fulfill it in a different system.
He'll probably end up at Everton despite Stekelenburg's return to form (which is why they should not go in for him). Would be great to see him succeed abroad. Italians would probably love him.
