I do feel sorry for Hart in all this. OK I accept Hart hasn't currently got the skill set Pep wants, but he has been a popular City legend and is a fine keeper, certainly much better than Willy.

He has been completely frozen out after what, 45 minutes of football against Arsenal. Pep says Hart can fight for his place, but he won't even play him when the other fringe players are playing.

There seems attempts at character assassination against anyone who speaks out on BM, (almost cyber bullying?). I have no problem us getting Bravo, but Hart does not appear to have been treated with the respect and dignity I would have expected from our top management team.

Edit - I've re-watched the 2nd half of Arsenal v. City friendly.

Hart's distribution was as follows:
Thrown short: 3
Kicked short: 4
Goal kick short: 1
Kicked long: 3

For the long kicks, Hart had an easy pass short but kicked long anyways on two occasions. For the remaining long kick, Hart had time on the ball and could have waited for passing lanes to open but quickly kicked it long without waiting.

3 goals were scored by Arsenal while Hart was in.
1st goal, down to Hart's left. Probably Hart should have done better.
2nd goal, scoop over Hart - not Hart's fault.
3rd goal, Hart comes out, slides in, momentarily collects the ball and then fumbles it. Clear error.

So after re-watching this display, I'm going to say it wasn't insubordination.

Yet, there is a clear lack of confidence/desire/whatever on Hart's part to play it short whenever possible.

And Hart had a terrible game in goal, with 1-1/2 errors.

On the basis of Hart's display versus Willy's, it's clear that Willy deserved the start in our first game, and WIlly hasn't done anything poorly enough since to cede the starting role to a comparable keeper.

City Watch didn't report anything, they quoted The Mirror who made almost zero gambles in producing an article speculating that Pep would probably rest his top players for the return leg of a 5-0 Champions League Qualifier.

The Mirror are not a reliable source for Pep Guardiola's squad selections.

Your argument, as indeed every argument against Pep's decision, is essentially based on two elements:
1. Joe is a club legend, so he deserves special treatment.
2. At least he's better than Willy.

Joe being a club legend is irrelevant in this situation, he's not going to work in Pep's system and didn't give any indication, in pre-season or otherwise, that he would at least try to. According to several sources, including Ian Cheeseman, Joe's footballing ability is even less a concern to Pep than his attitude problems, but even on the footballing level then Joe simply doesn't meet the criteria required at City under Pep.

Willy may not be as good at anything that Joe is, but he's willing to follow instructions and try to make it work, even if it doesn't. This instantly makes him better, and preferable, to Joe and gives him a future with City, albeit as number 2 behind Bravo. Joe has no future at City, therefore it's only wasting play time for Willy in some vain attempt to appease his ego, ie, it's putting a player before the club.

What exactly is dignity and respect for Joe here?
