Keepers, like all players, make mistakes. Unfortunately, their mistakes are often punished by conceding.

I can't believe some of the comments here.
"Arrogant", "gobbing off"? It's called getting fired up!

Frig me. Slagging our current longest serving player off for shouting "come on boys" before a game?

I found this bit of the Herbert's piece amusing

He claims there other offenders and then goes on to say they were helpless. Make up your mind you ballbag.

Citing a professional footballer as 'arrogant' seems to be the go to line for fans and the media when they want to slag a player off. It's a cheap, lazy shot, which really can't be proved or disproved and is based largely on the fact that they earn such vast sums of money these days. All professional sportsmen and women have supreme confidence in their own ability, it's one if the things that separates them from the 'nearly men'. Without that confidence and trust in their ability they could not perform at the level they do. Joe Hart isn't the best keeper in the world, but I'll bet you that's his aim. He makes mistakes as every keeper does, but he has the minerals to admit it which makes me sceptical about the claim that he didn't react well to criticism from Mancini. Whatever you think of Hart, he's saved us more points than he's cost us and, if he's not totally committed to City, he does a bloody good job of pretending to be.

True, I just find people contradicting themselves within a couple of lines particularly funny.

I've met Joe twice, well once really ( the first time he was in my presence but I didn't engage with him ) and he came across as a decent down to earth bloke. In a water park in Portugal I gave him stick about getting his hair wet and he had the good grace to laugh and came back with some witty response, didn't strike me as arrogant in the slightest.

What I dislike about our 'fans' is how quick they are to jump on a players back and shout for him to leave.

Do you think Spurs fans are on their forums now asking for Kane and Ali to be sold? Are they bollocks.

Did rag fans want Beckham sold after he ruined our chances at France 98? No, they backed him big time instead.

Joe Hart has always given 100% to the Manchester City cause and always will do. For what it's worth, he's also one of our best players and has just had a very good season for us. The team has far bigger issues than looking to replace the goalkeeper, with attack, midfield and defense all requiring more work. I always find it funny how our fans beg for loyalty from players and get upset at any discontent (Yaya) but are so quick to turn on a player who has done well for us when they show a dip in form.

The bottom line is that I couldn't care less if Joe didn't do well for England as long as he does well for Manchester City, which apart from a short spell during the 13/14 season, he mostly has done. He'll come back strong from this, just like he did then.

He's had a few blips in the Euros. It happens though.

De Gea didn't exactly cover himself in glory either.

I'm disappointed that Hart didn't stop Iceland's second goal - IMO England was and still is one of the top 4 or 5 sides in the Euros and definitely should have advanced especially against Iceland.

Well I don't want him to leave,but everyone can see he needs to stop this hype in the tunnel,swearing and that in front of the kids/mascots,there is no need,just go out and do what you are good at (apart from saving to his left),big season for Joe,any flaws in his game could see him out under Pep I would imagine,and with what has happened these last few weeks,he is going to be scrutinised even more now

Spot on mate.

Yes Joe should have saved it, but what were the defence doing standing around like statues allowing Iceland to play tippy tappy on the edge of the box and get a shot away? Where were the midfield tracking the runners? What role did Joe play in the complete incompetence of the midfield and attack to not force the Icelandic keeper into one decent save throughout the whole of the 90 minutes?

De Gea is a good keeper, and if it wasn't for him, Spain could have lost by more yesterday. But he completely cocked up on the free kick that led to Italy's first goal, failing to push the ball to the side, and would have been sent off if Chiellini hadn't followed up. He dropped a clanger in the game against Croatia. Does that make him a bad keeper? Well, I haven't heard many rags asking that he be got rid of.

What is happening with some City fans? Hart, Sterling, Silva all slated on this forum. God, I hope KDB doesn't have a stinker in the next game or they'll be on his back as well.

Excellent post, he's a great keeper, passionate and he cares - which is more than you can say for some of the other players.

I feel strongly about this.
Joe is not the best keeper in the world, no-one including him has ever claimed. But he's good enough to have won 2 Premier League titles. He is also not finished developing, his best years are ahead of him, and with learning, and good coaching he can improve. He's always either winning the golden gloves or close to it, often despite the defence in front of him!
He's passionate, which some people have laughably said is a negative, and cares. Does he get overhyped sometimes, I don't know, but if he does, its probably to compensate for the complete lack of interest that some of his team mates show (both England and City).
He should have strong competition but he is one of the last people I would want to see leave.
Oh and I didn't even mention HG quota!

Passion counts for a lot. Joe obviously cares - if more on our squad felt the same way we probably would have won the EPL last year going away.

It's curious how much of sport is about mental state. For example, the home side having a huge advantage due to the emotional boost from the crowd.

And passion is a huge part of that mental state.
