Joey Barton

That's what I was trying to find out. It's not a phrase I use so not sure why/when others do. You could be right. It just seems to me though used when someone is being a decent person, so not sure why they should be called out for it.
You can be a decent person without going out of your way to make sure everyone knows how decent you are.

In fact the more decent a person I'd say the less likely they are to have to publicise it.

I'm sure you're not far off with that.

I'm exaggerating here, but it also sounds a bit like people need to keep quiet about the decent things they do. I know the British way is to be fairly modest, but it's a very fine line between virtue signalling and just being a decent person isn't it?

If this is the definition, what do you think that Lineker has over-publicised?

Do you mean the episode where he felt sorry for the asylum seekers on Twitter, so the attack pack suggested that he use his house to take them in and he subsequently did?

What other things has he self-publicised?

There are some seriously self-opinionated, self-important posters on this thread
who just refuse point blank to even listen, never mind accept that there
might just be an alternative point of view from their own.

bigot. / (ˈbɪɡət) / noun. a person who is intolerant of any ideas other than his or her own, esp on religion, politics, or race.

I guess that’s why they don’t like Mr Lineker.
