Joey Barton

The vlog that City posted on their own social media channels? I would have thought so, unless the club docked her pay because Joey Barton didn't like it.
Then she needs to get the basics right or she’s leaving herself open to people ridiculing her knowledge. If she’s serious about this being a career at any rate.

I thought she was just someone with a small following on YouTube or whatever, in which case it’s more understandable. If she’s being paid for the content as a professional by the club then she should really do better.

That’s not a gender issue, that’s a professionalism issue.

Haha, found the exact same study as you from 2021:
Yeah you weren’t too far off tbf and you make a good point. Better than any other I’ve seen so far pushing for female pundits.

The only caveat I’ll mention on that is that my wife can’t stand female pundits though one person’s views can’t be used as evidence if anything but I’ve never spoken to any other women (who watch football) about this subject.

For sure, but I'm not sure why that's relevant here. We're talking about Joey Barton being a twat for digging that clip up to ridicule her to millions of twitter followers and try and make some point about why women shouldn't be doing a job which isn't even the job she does anyway. You can't move on the internet for men posting their clueless takes on football but he's decided to pile onto her because she happens to be woman posting a clueless take about football. I don't think she deserves to be collateral damage in his pathetic attempt to woo the tedious flag shaggers who are probably the only remaining audience who'll have him.

So the issue is that it’s Barton doing so to push a gender issue? Fair enough, I can’t move on social media for people also ripping the piss out of a thousand “fan pundits” and their terrible takes, but I guess it’s the people being labelled clueless rather than the fact that they’re clueless because of their gender.

I agree that she should be getting the basics right if she is going to talk about the match itself; let's have it right she's working for arguably the best club in the world right now, and content is going across the world.

However, everyone makes mistakes and anyone talking live doesn't have the benefit of re-editing the clip before it goes out. Remember when Chris Kamara was literally at that Portsmouth game for Soccer Saturday, and didn't even realise someone had been sent off? Everyone just laughed, and even now, I've never seen anyone actually pull him up for lack of concentration/idiocy! At the end of the day, it's just 'Kammy'.

Back on topic though, Barton is a rat, and even more so for trying to solidify his 'point' by using a clip of a young lady who has literally no power of reply to defend herself.

The other month, everyone dug out Eni Aluko for her comments on the transfer window. She actually has power of reply through her fairly large social media following.

Totally agree, I don’t think she made the faux pas because of her gender. I just assumed she was another one a thousand new fan “match day vloggers”.

I see some women pundits and I think blimey they are awful. But I also see a lot of male ex footballers (usually played for LFC) and think they are awful.

I really can’t see the appeal in women’s football.

But I am getting old and things change so I need to get over it or keep quiet ( he says posting!)

So does the utterly ridiculous Joey Barton.

Yeah, my mum always gets a bit embarrassed about female commentators, for what it's worth. She keeps her voice down at City cos she can't bear the thought of shrilly cheering above everyone else, lol. But she's also strongly in favour of women having more of a role in men's football generally. Not in terms of having mens and womens mixed games or anything like that, just in terms of having more pundits, fans, commentators, coaches, etc.

Plus like - this is back to my opinion now - female commentators aren't exactly a new thing cos Jacqui Oatley was on MOTD from as early as the mid-2000s, but in relative terms they've only just arrived en masse and should be allowed time to perfect their craft. If you listen back to reports on football from the 1930s it's like you've gone to another planet for a second. Don't even get me started on the Yanks, lmao.

But everything new needs a bit of time to be worked out. For what it's worth I really like Robyn Cowen. I remember when we beat Brighton 3-0 on the way to the title in 2022 and she was the only commentator we had around that time who really seemed excited and matched the intensity of the game with her words. Better than the dreck Martin Tyler was serving up at that time, who always sounded like one of our goals had woken him up from a nap.

Pretty obvious at this point that his views on this aren't really driven by a want for higher standards in punditry, it's just straight up misogyny. He's now essentially saying women shouldn't be in any workplace around men. And apparently when a married man has an affair with a woman, it's the woman rather than his own poor decisions that will end up costing him his marriage.

Doubly egregious of him to then try and bait female presenters into publicising his shitty podcast and accuse them of being too shy to debate him. He's thick as fuck.

This all seems to be deflection trying to bury the outrageous attempt to portray his muderer brother as a victim. Even for a scouser that was a step too far. The focus needs to be kept on those appalling statements and not let them be buried by noise from some fans supporting his more recent misogynist nonsense.

Yep, he’s moved the goalposts massively throughout.

I would love Joey to get a co-comms job on Sky provided he did it in the Allo Allo accent he used at his Marseille press conferences
