John Bond 1932-2012

Re: John Bond

With the relatively straightforward addition of McDonald, Gow and Hutchison he transformed a team, to give City fans one of their best seasons between 1978 and 2010.

A big character and the right personality to run our football club back then. The chewing gum the cigars and the ridiculous sheepskin coats; fantastic, loved it!

RIP John Bond. My first visit to Wembley as a City fan was thanks to you and for that I will always remember you with fondness.

Re: John Bond

Like many others, I had some great memories of 'Johnny Bond Johnny Bond Johnny Bond', easily a positive part of our history, I think Big Mal's being a little unkind in that clip, JB just brought experience in every department, something that was needed with Mals team but it appeared he couldn't see that, JB and many fans could.

Admittedly at the time I was a bit underwhelmed by JB's appointment, maybe even moreso his signings of Gerry Gow, Hutch and Bobby Mac, but you only have to look how highly regarded those three players are even today to see how much of an impact they had, and we went on to have a great season.

R.I.P John Bond and condolences to his family.

Sad news - my first ever match was away at Palace, November 81 when he had just taken over and was turning things around. two goals from Gow in a 3-2 win over recently departed Big Malc's new team. Got threatened with a night in the cells by a policeman for scrapping with my sister on the terraces - terrifying prospect as a 9 year old - I'm sure my dad put him up to it! great memories

"We're on the march with John Bond's army.....

As many have said that 80-81 season was one of the best...What a weekend at Wembley that was......

R.I.P John....

Re: John Bond

Some very happy memories of the 80/81 Cup runs under Bond. In the end he became frustrated with the way the club was being run at the top and with hindsight who could blame him.

RIP
