John Guidetti: 20 goals and 6 assists in 23 for Feyenoord

has anyone missed the last page that states he might never play again? anyone?

I thought that was a bad translation for he will miss the rest of the season. Doctors won't guarantee you'll recover from the flu.

i know the severity is probably taken out of context, but this thread was bumped by a post informing a potentially serious illness for john. BUT, all we then see are more posts slagging off his attitude.

only on blue moon could fans treat their potential starlet as an arrogant greedy prick

Funny thing is he's an anti-mercenary and getting slated. He just wants to play and isn't motivated by money, he nearly joined Twente last summer as he was worried about limited chances here but our club convinced him he had a future here.

He has a charity in Kenya, how many footballers barely out of their teens do that? He's confident and perhaps a little cocky as young players so often are but he is not this egomaniac some people are making him out to be. Amazingly there is almost a quiet desire for Guidetti, a product of our academy, to fail among some as if to prove the "Dutch league is wank, just another Samaras" mantra that has been repeated in this thread.

We should support our youth products, especially ones who have a lot of talent. Most players mature with age but people are quick to attack a lad who just exited his teens despite his obvious talent that those more educated than us, aka the scouts of top European clubs, have noticed hence the great interest in clubs bigger than our own in him.

Well he is somewhat arrogant. Look at the other names on that list, all of them scored more goals than him, and each one of them would cut off their right arm to have a chance to play at City. Guaranteed CL, challenging for every trophy, getting paid a fortune, trained by world class coaches, getting into their country's senior squad etc. Guidetti acts like it's an insult if he got number 60 instead of 9 or 10, those other players would be ecstatic to wear 60 for a club like City. Aguero didn't even get 10.

If he works his rear end off and achieves his maximum potential, he has a chance, just a chance to make it here. The Bundesliga's leading scorer and champion has failed in that regard, what makes him think that his 4th leading scorer in Eredivise status warrants more consideration?

It was fine when he said he wanted to play at any club, that's any player's career decision even if he doesn't want to be at City. Totally different to demand being first or second choice striker along with the likes of Aguero and Tevez. He should be given a chance at City for sure, but this isn't Feyenoord. We're not going to beg him to stay and be our 9 or 10. He will be a backup and if he's an exceptionally hard worker, he will make the squad long-term, which is the same as our other strikers.

One of our up and coming players is driven, ambitious and believes in his own ability.

He accepted a loan move and has made a terrific success of it. His drive, ambition and belief is reinforced and he has added top class experience to the mix and now he is hungry for more of the same.

What part of this picture is a problem for us as City fans? He is OUR player. If he comes back and proves himself good enough .......brilliant. If he can't force himself into the side, he's put significant value on his transfer fee with his exploits in Holland.

Personally, I have no problem with a the guy saying he wants to play football. If he said he wanted to head off and play golf for three months I think I might be more concerned.

Because he feels he is talented enough to dictate his importance to the club, instead of leaving this to much more qualified people

I don't read this into anything in the article. The 'more qualified' will determine his importance to the club in due course but, while they are deciding, I have no problem with the guy expressing belief in his own ability. I guess if you see it as arrogance we simply interpret it differently. Difficult to say unless we hear the interview rather than see a transcript but I'm willing to offer him the benefit of the doubt.

He'll get his comeuppance

WTF??

He's a City player,he may well be getting his ambitions mixed up with his capabilities, who knows, only time will tell.......However it's certainly not a crime and,as such,i find your comment that insinuates him potentially coming a cropper may somehow do him good, very strange indeed.

Before he starts demanding the number 9 shirt at City ahead of players like Aguero, he needs to prove himself in a real league. Here are the leading scorers in that league.

1 Bas Dost Heerenveen 28
2 Luuk de Jong Twente Enschede 23
3 Sanharib Malki Roda JC Kerkrade 20
4 John Guidetti Feyenoord Rotterdam 18

I've heard of De Jong, that's it. The way he acts is ridiculously cocky for what he's done.

4 John Guidetti Feyenoord Rotterdam 20

Stats from Soccernet ESPN? Well they have it wrong, been wrong number of goals the whole season...

Dost was nearly bought by Ajax as a replacement for Suarez, and if they buy a striker you just know he'll leave for 20m+ a year or two later. Did you ever hear of RvP 5 years ago? Or Suarez before he played at Ajax?

<a class="postlink" href="http://nl.wikipedia.org/wiki/Lijst_van_topscorers_Eredivisie" onclick="window.open(this.href);return false;">http://nl.wikipedia.org/wiki/Lijst_van_ ... Eredivisie</a>

Take a look at this list of top scorers by season, apart from a few you'll see it consists of strikers who are now remembered or hated as the best in the world. So i would definately not write it off as being a mickey mouse league where anyone can score loads.

Re: I Want Number 9 or 10 Shirt – John Guidetti Warns Man City

Asked whether a stay in the Eredivisie was on the agenda, Guidetti told Inside Futbol: "I can say one thing for sure: My aim is to play.

"This is the reason why last summer I chose Feyenoord", he added.

"I’m looking for a club that tells me ‘John, you are our first or second striker. Here’s the number 9 or 10 shirt’."

And the Sweden star, who is tipped to make an impact at Euro 2012, is clear that the omens at Manchester City last summer were not good, and is it that which forced his departure.

"At Manchester City they gave me the number 60 shirt!", said Guidetti.

"Obviously I’m looking forward to playing in a top team and it will be important what City decide to do next summer.

"For me and my career, playing as a regular in the current season has been fundamental."
This interview was given many months ago and has been rewritten by some nobody website. Do you really think that Guidetti knows who Inside Futbol is??

Especially the quote that City gave him the number 60 shirt is complete bollocks. Don't believe everything you read.

Guidetti's season with Feyenoord is definitely over. He might not even make it to the Euro's. He is suffering from neuritis and it's difficult to predict how long the recovering will take. Feyenoord however won their big game today against AZ (1-0) and are now in 2nd place. PSV are 1 point behind and AZ and Heerenveen follow by 3 points.
