John Stones - 2016/17 performances

No Way do you rush out like that leaving the centre forward on the edge of your box free, without knowing someone is covering. Which Stones didn't. Was good yesterday, apart from that though!!

I'm not ablsolving him of any blame, but to put ALL the blame on one player is a tad unfair.
2 others, in my opinion, were also very poor in their play.

I'm sorry, but was clearly at fault for the goal. Should never have left his position leaving Defoe in acres of space to score. Good performance apart from that though!!

I figured you'd say that. And others have too. So I don't think you are hating. But I disagree with your analysis. I think he failed to stop the through ball, but his decision to step up and disrupt the play was the right call. You can't stand back and let the guy take a an open shot. That would have been a poor decision. Besides an unpressured guy with the ball 5 feet from the 18 would have easily found a cutting Defoe given the space and time.

I think Sagna should have switched on to Defoe but he froze coz he had another guy on the outside. The greater danger was Defoe. You either step up and keep him offside or you swing inside of him. He did neither.

That indecision, was the biggest error in that sequence. Either way, think Stone is off to a solid start. And I expect his performancesto get better as our press and possession game improves.

You might be giving Stones credit for some of Kolarov's headers - he won 7 (out of 9).

Good debut. Can see why pep wanted him, suits the play out of the back role well. Damned if did damned if he didn't for the goal. In that situation he had to close the space on Rodwell who was let into a dangerous position by the midfield.
