We won't see the best of stones until he has someone beside him with a brain.

Will he ever be an amazing defender? Possibly not but I guess Guardiola doesn't intend on us do if too much defending in the coming years, I think he will be amazing for our style when we have other players that allow us to implement that style fully.

rubbish. he's shown throughout the time he's been here he can defend. he's been one our best defenders,
I don't know.... he's 22 and played some 10 odd games already surely we can conclude his purchase was a poor choice. If Pep hasn't changed him yet it will never happen!

He's not the first CB that MSN have made look like a Sunday league player. He's been great so far for us and he's still very young. Not worried at all.

Needs a partner like Van Dijk who can compliment his attributes and no,Otamendi/Kompany aren't.
That's a very good call actually, he needs a more robust, ball winning centre half who mixes it with the centre forward. Stones will b e there to sweep up and dictate our defensive passing.
Dare I say it, he needs a Vidic to him being a Ferdinand.

Was he that bad? I was probably too drunk in the second half and especially when we collapsed, i.e. by the time Bravo got the red. Up until that I liked the look of him and he played some neat short passes from the back, which helped us a lot not to fall under pressure.

Then for unknown reasons I checked the Stones thread on redcafe... :) And by the sound of it, he must have had the worst CB display ever in the entire universe. Is it just because of that Neymar goal, who could, to be fair, easily dribble past Eric 'twice the player' Bailly too, or were there any other big failings?

Definitely need a CB partner if not a full back 4 or 5 unit to become a great. That team have made many a defender look average. As per though English fans of other clubs would rather see a young lad fail, I proper hope he proves all the doubters wrong, he is a class act on his game.

He also needs to understand that some time Row Z is the easiest option !!

There was a heated discussion Chez ERO Ewing last night over the same point. Some of the clearances had Row Z tattooed on them but we still went for the football option. Row Z will be the best option with Suarez, Messi and Neymar sniffing about. Play football when they're twenty yards away!

I like Stones he will i am sure come good but last night looked star struck and out of his comfort zone, but you get better by playing in games like these.

he seems ok some times (remember even everton dropped him) and then at other times he looks like a rabbit caught in headlights etc. I obviously hope for the best, but I fear the worst, of course I will give him more time, the question is how much time does pep give him, pep has the entire team to look after and I don't reckon all of his time can be spent coaching one player, we can only hope he does improve, but last night was a shocker

I've faith that with time Stones will prove that he is a good defender. However, yesterday he was dog shit. He's a better passer than half the midfielders in PL, but he is bang on average as a traditional defender. His reaction to Gundo's back pass was horrific. Didn't know when to tackle or clear or hold the ball in tight situations.

Very satisfying "debut" against the best frontline in the world, at Camp Nou. It wasn't easy as expected. His bravery to play football the way he does (and his manager wants him to play) is amazing so far. Hope he keeps improving.

made a bad mistake. but that will happen all players make mistakes. still on of the best young defenders in the country for me and he's shown his class. i hope he doesnt get the same hate sterling got.

The world is crazy, he keeps making mistake after mistake yet hailed as an amazing talent after every game, I'm not seeing it I must admit and think this guy is one of the biggest frauds of all time. He's awful.

Was a careless pass but I thought he had a decent game besides that defensively and should have had a goal if Aguero could have stayed onside.

yep barca, city, united and pep were all wrong he's actually shit. apart fro mthe mistake he played well and would have scored if not for kun

He's young & we knew he'd make costly mistakes, he's got to learn from these types of things to show he can adapt. Reacted well enough to it & played well for the remainder of the match, shame his goal was given offside.

really poor from him today....cost us a goal directly....the pass was never on and he didnt look. he had already got away with one (to Kolorov - who was equally guilty of being sloppy)

If Pep is the man I think he is he will bench stones for the next game and put Ottomendi back on providing Kompany is fit
