Very much this.

He played a ball from defence after about a minute today that split them in half and found KDB in a great position. Sublime.

soft as puppy shit in defensive situations though.
 
He lets things go when he needs to elbow in sharpish, but also frequently gets done for being waaaay too tight when it's time to hold the guy up. I really don't get him as a top quality CB. His part in their goal made shocking viewing. Someone needs to boost his stats.
 
I don’t think he’s got any better than when we bought him, he’s certainly not at the level I expected him to be at by now

He’s not aggressive enough. Although that could be said for a lot of them

Played well the first half of last season when he had the same player alongside him. Do you think he played well in the first half of last season?

Yes he did and he played well at times the season before and there’s a pattern....his best performances coincide with the team battering the opposition week after week. I have said before, Stones is the best defender in the world in a 5-0 win. Fucking useless when we have to do any defending though.

I have to disagree with your description of useless. Let’s see what happens as the season progresses
 
Stones was shocking yesterday. When we needed someone to step up after laporte's injury i thought he would

He has done nothing of the sort and his role on their first goal on saturday was a disgrace

We have spent millions on our defence and at the minute we have one very good cb injured and the other is our best ever defensive midfielder

The fact that fernandinho is showing this rabble how to defend is a fucking disgrace and otamendi, stones and mendy should be totally ashamed
 
Mentally he has gone.

Personal issues i feel for the lad but on a professional level, his dip in performance can not be excused and he has gone from looking like a Rolls Royce of a player to a Deer in the headlights one.

That said our CB's have had the luxury of Ferny sat in front of them and its key he is back there asap, i.e. the next game please Pep and that we identify his replacement asap as well because its absolutely key to the way we play under Pep.

We have been doing business very poorly! Look at what the rags did with Smalling, now they are on the verge of getting some good money from some clueless italians!

If we put Stones / Mendy on the market, we stand to lose a lot of money but if we loan them to lesser leagues, they would most likely perform brilliantly there and teams would be drawn into some kind of bidding war.

Mendy needs to return to France, it just hasnt worked for him here. Stones on the other hand can be loaned to the bundesliga or the eredevise, they appreciate ball playing defenders so he would do just fine in either of these leagues.

Smallings wasnt a 50 mil signing and probably is on lower wages as stones and mendy so that'll put teams of. Also good luck trying to convince stones to go to germany.
 
My biggest disappointment at the moment. I’m not one to jump to conclusions and always like to give people time before making a judgement. He’s had A LOT of time now though so I’ve been happy to pass comment this season.

He started the previous two seasons superbly but always struggled for form after returning from an injury.

By now he should have developed into a leader of the back four but he looks like a young lad who’s just got out of bed. He seems to lack the drive to become better that someone like Sterling has. He’s satisfied with how his career has turned out and doesn’t seem to want anymore.

Then you factor in that he only seems to play well when next to Kompany or Laporte, which for a player of his age and experience isn’t really acceptable at this level.

It says it all that Fernandinho is now better than him at centre half. For a midfielder to come in, who has never played the position before, and be better than an experienced centre half simply isn’t good enough.

Don’t get me started on his half hearted attempts to win headers from our own corners. Powderpuff.
