I thought we might wrap this one up quite quickly - but it doesn't seem to be the case. Our ITKs say he only wants us, we want him, his agent is pushing - Everton have no manager so Kenwright can sell. Be interesting to see if we can push this one through before Friday but we tend not to do things quickly. You'd think Arsenal had the new manager the way they have hit the ground running. I guess it's the quality you buy not the haste with which you buy it that counts.

Pep and Mancini and pelle don't buy players.......we are in the new world.....tixi etc think about our performance and buy players. The manager has an input but it's derisory , this is the new world....don t blame managers for new signings !!

So let me get this straight Pep Guardiola went to the Conservatorium Hotel in Amsterdam whilst still the coach of Bayern to meet up with Txiki for a lads night out?

I think in the past with Mancini and pellegrini players would have been bought with minimal input from them but no way imo that pep isn't saying exactly who he wants and getting txiki on the case with instructions to get as many from the a-target list as possible

Surely the manager (particularly one as obsessive as the former "virtual president" of Barcelona, Pep Guardiola) has a say in transfer targets? Otherwise it would be potentially massively counterproductive.

I thought it was understood Pelligrini had a big say in choosing Willie and MDM. I am sure Pep will have an even bigger input than Pelli.

I expect this varies significantly according to the perceived credibility of the manager. For Pellers I would imagine derisory about sums it up, but for Pep he will be at the other end of the scale in terms of his influence. Bob was probably slipping further towards Pellers by the time the end came!

Lots is being made of Pep coaching Stones into being a better defender but I think Vinnie's potential role is being underplayed.

I'm sure everyone's sick of hearing about Pep confidential at this point but there's a specific section in one of the chapters about nullifying the threat of the opposition's free man (not Morgan or Martin).

Identifying who this free man is, isolation him and anticipating the moment when he's about to receive the ball are all paramount. One of Kompany's huge strengths of defending on the front foot fits this description.

So, even if he does remain perpetually injured, Pep has the ideal role model in Vinnie and one who can help transition Stones and/ or Laporte into fitting a defensive strategy Guardiola has maintained throughout his managerial career.

Another reason why, in my mind, thoughts of our captain being disposed of this summer are ludicrous.
