John Stones

If we look at Boateng, his defensive cock ups, like the several goals he's handed to us, are balanced against his passing ability, which gives Bayern & also Germany, an extra dimension.

I imagine that's the trade off Pep is looking at. Yes, he will cost us goals, but he will also help us dominate games.

Hope he's right.

Pep will probably develop Stones into a defensive midfielder in a year or two. His ball playing ability is really good. His defending, honestly, leaves a lot to be desired.

An Eric Dier Role, i can picture it now

If we buy him it would be to be a centre back, I do not see us paying £50 million to then change his position. I have nothing against buying a player for £8-£10 million and thinking they have potential elsewhere, but to spend a record fee for a centre back you should be buying a CENTRE BACK.

Why would Pep be interested in spending £50m on a defensive midfielder who apparently isn't any good at defending.

He could get any one of dozens of good on the ball, technically skilled midfielders for 1/4 of the price.

If Guardiola wants Stones, it'll be as a centre back.

If Pep wants Stones, it's not as a centre back. Or a right back. Or a defensive midfielder. It's because he thinks he could play all 3

Stones is a serious step up on Mangala in terms of ball distribution and versatility.
So is the goal post.
PS This is not meant to be an anti Mangala post I actually quite like him but one thing is for sure distribution ain't one of his key attractions.
