John Stones

I'm sure you do!

We have money. We need to spend it. As it stands, we're well within the FFP threshold. The issue is convincing the big names to come to Everton. Selling Stones isn't going to help, which is why it's no issue to us (more of a positive) if he is kept. If he does leave, it'll be for the most money possible and not a penny less.

Because 12 months is a long time and any human being would accept an extra £2,600,000 over that period.

Why did Suarez accept a new deal at Liverpool despite being messed around with the release clause in that window? Because he'd earn more. And he left in the next window. But for the few months he did stay, he might as well have made the most of it.

The phrase goes "money or principles; pick one". Footballers think differently to you.

Everton will not be 'forever midtable'. That's just an extremely ignorant footballing opinion. Could I have said "City will forever be relegation candidates" ten years ago? Yes, but that would be stupid. Money changes things. Everton are on the path back to where they belong, where they have been for so many years. Whether you like it or not.

Everton absolutely would accept that.

But that won't be offered.

This is incorrect, no matter how much you want it to be true.

Gnight lads.
So you dont believe we will pay with add ons? Even if we offer way above market value? Okay.

EFCblue is a good poster and I accept much of what he says. It is wrong of us to condemn Everton as being a 'forever mid-table club'; we have a lot of similarities and I wish them well.

I like Stones but Everton are in a strong position. He has signed a long contract and they do not need the money. Other than the player's own willingness to move, we hold very few of the cards in terms of this transfer.

He seems OK as far as Evertonians go

But I don't wish them well never liked them never will

Moyes + Kenwright =/= Koeman + Moshiri
I'll believe that when there's some evidence to back it up.

"The you'll get the player when you pay the fee we set" is fine in normal circumstances. It goes for everyone, but when a player submits a transfer request then aren't you supposed to listen to the player and get the best outcome for club and player? Setting the fee at World Record level is a bit much! OK when Chelsea come along at end of window and you have no means of replacing him, I get it, but 12 months later? You'll be lumbered with a player whose fed up. He might be playing, but I doubt very much if you're going to get 100% out of him.

Well said...we can huff and puff about how much he is on and how much he wants to leave etc etc but we'd do the same ourselves in their shoes

Where they have been for so many years? I make it 1 trophy in the last 30 years, and no immediate prospect of ending that drought. Not a slight on Everton, but the reality is that the rags, the dippers and the Arse have rigged the game in their favour for donkeys years. Clubs like Everton, Southampton and West Ham have one season only in which to spring a surprise (like Leicester just did) before they get raped by the Sky 4. The only reason we were able to get a toehold and then maintain it, was because we had the financial backing of an entire state. Everton don't have that and, new TV deal or no new TV deal, I'd say breaking through the glass ceiling of 7th place is likely to be beyond them for a good few years yet

everything about the player says he wants to leave and he will for sure. question is at what price, we need the money to fund replacements and the club will want to do that in the next few weeks.

Never say never in football. Stuff happens. They could improve massively, and they could decline massively too.

I don't believe Everton are awash with money, despite the recent investment, and even a 100m spree doesn't amount to much these days when City and United spend that regularly, with the latter likely to be spending near that figure on a single player.

As for why Suarez stayed another season - because he was contractually obligated to. Arsenal THOUGHT they could trigger a release clause (seemingly based on leaked info from Suarez's camp) - but the contract was not as explicit as thought, and thus he was forced to remain for another year.

We will just have to wait and see what happens with Stones. Everton will claim they won't let him go for a penny less than they want, and we will claim likewise from the buying side. It matters not. If we pay it's because we're prepared to, and if they sell, it's because they were prepared to.

The pull of Everton isn't what it used to be - regardless of Koeman being there. They've been in steady decline for some time, but it's not (yet) at the rate of City or Leeds, or more recently Villa. I'd say they appear to be treading water at best.

Destined to be a mid-table team forever? - nonsense. They've been better than us for large parts of their history, but they aren't so during this period. Who knows what the future holds for them?

Can't blame Everton fans for dreaming big and wanting to hold onto their best players. It's a long hard slog but if you're given the opportunity then you don't want your efforts to come to nothing. We were there once and it's not easy trying to mix it with the top clubs,
