Kompany & Mangala are supposed to be our best centre halves but they can't play together. They both like to dive in, leaving us exposed.

I would go with Kompany & Denayer personally. Vin seems better when he is the senior centre half.

what? Vinny is the senior of Mangala! At the moment Demechelis/ Mangala is the best partnership.

No it's not. Kompany is our best CB and him coming off the back of a poor season doesn't change that. As much as I think Mangala will become a competent partner for him, he won't be his senior whilst Vinny is still at the club.

The myth about Demichellis and Mangala is based on results with the two in the team but that doesn't even begin to paint the picture. You have to look at the opposition and chances created against us as well as the full backs and midfield in front of them.
The fact is Demichellis wasn't that great towards the latter end of the season, he was showing his age a little and his legs looked to have gone on a couple of occasions. He's still the smartest of the back four and his brain works quick enough to get him out of trouble, but with him being another year older I can't see this year being any different. Used sparingly we have the perfect cover, but that's all he should be.

Denayer coming back has put pressure on our centre backs.

Mangala really has to step up and repay the faith we put in him when we bought him.

Big season for my favourite player Vinny this year. Vinny hasnt played well since Pelle took over. Is it the system and style of play or the injuries or a mixture of both. Lets all hope we can see Vinny back to his best.

Playing Vinny with Denayer would be fantastic for bringing on Denayer. Denayer respects Vinny and is humble enough to learn.

The future is a partnership of Mangala and Denayer. This could potentially become the best partnership in world football.

The Mangala, Demechelis partnership a myth? sorry but totally disagree, It looked a decent partnership to me, youth and experience.

Mangala, Kompany a disaster, both running about like headless chickens.

Kompany need to sort his head out, a very big season for Vinny, I just hope he comes back to form, but I have my doubts.

It did look a decent partnership, but it won't be happening again unless Kompany gets injured.
Mangala and Kompany will be first choice CB's with Denayer and Demichellis filling in as and when required.

Harry Redknapp has just been on talkshite acting as a Chelsea press officer telling everyone that if a player wants to go you should let him. He's a busy ****, it's fuck all to do with him. Is there anything he won't comment on?

I believe maths and texting are two subjects he steers clear of.

How HMRC are looking into tax avoidance by certain football managers

Not sure we'll need him if Mangala can have a good season and Vinny regains form, along with Denayer being integrated into the squad, but I do NOT want him to go to Chelsea. I think he could be very good in the near future.

Denayer is a superb footballer, but he's yet to prove he's a superb defender; playing centre half for Celtic in a league where Gary Hooper looks like Aguero is no indication of defensive prowess. He got the SPL young player of the year award, but so did Football League flops David Goodwillie and Leigh Griffiths. His positioning and decision making at times in preseason were suspect, and he either needs a loan spell with regular football for a midtable PL club, or to alternate at right back with Zabaleta while he gets a feel for the English game. He can't be compared to Stones until he's turned in as many top-class performances at a proper standard of football as the Everton kid has in the previous 2 seasons.

Kompany will never rediscover the form of 2010-13, but it is possible for him to level out at 'very good' if he gets the right partner; Demichelis and Mangala go AWOL far too often to provide the Lescott-esque foil for that he requires to excel.

Mangala played well last night, but will inevitably find himself exposed by players who do more than simply go toe-to-toe with him; his positional sense (or lack of) is similar to that of David Luiz and will cost us vital points over the season. Will be useful against certain teams, but as we look to finally make the transition into a serious CL challenger, we need a more measured approach to defending.

Demichelis is a veteran who should be used selectively, and has allegedly asked to leave anyway; the fact his 'decent' performances last season saw him lauded as our best defender should ring alarm bells and provoke the club to strengthen accordingly.

Godin would have been perfect, but ultimately he lives in a beautiful city where they speak his native language, playing for a club that has won a league title as recently as we did, and progresses further in Europe annually. We have to accept his decision to politely decline our approach, but kudos to Txiki and Pelle for trying.

Otamendi looks good; the closest thing to Cannavaro I've seen, but he has a bad habit of diving in two-footed and doesn't appear to read the game exceptionally well, something any potential recruit essentially should.

I've got a bit of aggro on here for my long-standing admiration of John Stones, but it's an opinion shared by Jose Mourinho, the best manager in the league and somebody who has personally won more top-level titles than most football clubs, including our own, so I'm in good company.

He performed better than any of our defenders last season, and was immense against us and CFC last season; had Ferguson still been on charge of the rags he'd have kidnapped him by now.

Stones' style would compliment Kompany's perfectly; if Denayer proves to be defensively good enough, we'd have two of the best young defenders in Europe and a potentially elite partnership for the next decade.

The rumours that we hoped he'd stay at Everton until next summer, and that Chelsea's pursuit might force our hand sooner (something similar happened with Liverpool and the Rags for Jones) are believable. If we are forced to move now, offering Denayer on loan to Everton as part of the deal would be beneficial to everyone.

We're not gonna sign another central defender mate

Mangala, Kompany, Demi and Denayer will be the four

That's funny. He wasn't saying that when Sterling wanted to leave Liverpool:

“He should want to sign his contract, get on with his football, have another three or four good seasons. Get your head down and play football [for Liverpool]. It becomes a problem. He has had one and a half top years [but] he as to keep playing, he is only a boy. The rewards will come. The rewards are there: we are talking about £100,000 a week not being good enough. What does he want, what is the problem? Get on and play your football and realise how fortunate you are to be at such a great club.”

Typical Rosie Redknapp feathering his nest. Hoping to get the job when Candlepool finally get wise to Rodgers.
