John Stones

Yep. Be lucky to get £30m for the pair, sadly.
A £40 million hit in less than 2 years! Jeez, we've really overpaid some dough in the last few years haven't we.
The Guardiola appointment doesn't half give whoever sin charge of transfer dealings some respite.

Just bringing Denayer home is all that's required,no need to go spending another 50m on an area of the squad that will be amongst the strongest in Europe anyway.Use the money for midfield,a striker and a full back.

We paid £40 for lack of composure with Mangala so maybe composure is the way forward.

Seriously, if we can't find another John Stones out in the big wide world (or maybe Barnsley) our scouting system (yeah what scouting system???) needs a fuckin good kicking. The lad is a good player but 50 million is plain crazy. All that will happen is Everton will go out and find the next 'John Stones' (already looking no doubt) and when they find him and Stones doesn't play perfectly every week to justify the massive fee we'll be linked with the next one.........and so it goes on......

True .

The kid looks great on the ball, but he lacks pace as ably demonstrated by Sterling this season. The high line Pep prefers will only highlight his one weakness. Not for us.

At Porto Mangala would regularly bring the ball out from the back, breaking into space in midfield. I guess maybe he could use his superior athleticism in the Portuguese league to do it, less so in English football, more technical ability required without as great a physical advantage.

I suspect there's a lot more to come from Mangala, he's just not really settled in here and doesn't look comfortable. Looks a bit low in confidence in himself.

Too early to say whether Stones will become a top defender.

Early enough to say that he isn't one now though. So anyone who buys him is taking a gamble. Moreso now Everton are finacially better off, he will cost stupid money.

There must surely be other optons around the world, we could aquire for a more resonable outlay short term, plus our own academy products longer term.

We can't sign every young player who 'might' turn out a top one & we can't fill the team with 'maybes'. I don't see how Stones has put himself above all other young players in all positions, with his performances. He is just one option amongst many, some of whom will come through, some of whom won't.

Exactly this. Potential only at the moment and we don't have a good record at bringing through potential, particularly at CB. Realise that Pep may change all that but Smalling has been better than Stones for me this season. I'll just go and get my tin hat now.
