John Stones

I agree.

I think with Demichelis likely to leave in January, Mangala not 100% convincing and Kompany having a tough time with injuries I think going for Stones should be something we should be considering.

If we are to get Guardiola then for me Stones could be his Piqué equivalent and for me he is perfect as a long term solution to Kompany as I think he looks a captain in the making.

I like Stones but not sure he is what we need. When kompany doesn't play we lack a leader - neither Otamendi or Mangala are that player. What we need is a CB who can organise back 4 and not attack the ball in wide areas of the pitch, e.g. high up the pitch or on the wing. I genuinely think Shawcross would be a great buy and probably a decent price too.

Why on earth would he be available in January? Everton have no need to sell, in fact with Jagielka out for a long time it would be pretty much giving up on their season to let him go in January. Cannot see any reason at all they'd even consider letting him go before the EURO's in the summer. They were rejecting £40m bids in the summer, why would they all of a sudden be planning on letting him go and hugely disrupting their season?

As much as I would love to sign Stones today's Spanish papers are linking us with Laporte who was said to be a major target for Txiki last season.

I am hoping we are looking more at Stones if we are going for a defender.

When an English/ homegrown player who is good enough to get into our side becomes available - like Sterling - you have to go for them in my opinion.

I think our dressing room needs more English/ homegrown players in it. Stones is a northern lad, looks potential world class, Premier League proven and will be an England regular for years to come.

Good. He is a ball playing CD. Personally, I don't buy into the 'We need a leader' talk. We need good footballers, with ball skills all over the field. The fewer poor ball skilled players we have, the better. Laporte has good ball skills and he is a fighter. 2 good qualities to have.

Agree with this like 10 trillion percent. Everyone must be able to play the ball. We suffer from this tremendously today and it will only be more important with Pep. Think we may see a few shipped out for this reason alone.

Spot on. It's not often a young english player comes along who can add to our team.

When they do, we need to be going for them full force.

Even if we brought in another cb (alongside stones) who would be considered more of a "leader" would anyone really be upset if we let mangala go to allow for the two additions? I don't think so.

Everton concede goals for fun, Stones has looked pretty dodgy every time I've watched him this season.

It's clear that Stones is great on the ball, but he's not a very good defender. I don't think Martinez is the manager to make him become a great defender either.

+1

No thanks rather go with Denayer than to splash £40mill on another defender.

This. No point in a panic buy (even if he is that good) while Kompany is injured for a few weeks. Once Kompany is back, our defense will be back in shape and we'll go on and win the title and keep progressing in Europe. At the end of the season, Demichelis will leave and we'll get Denayer back and we'll be set for the future.
