John Stones

So you want us to spend 50m pounds on an average at best CB just to convert him to a holding mid? And you're saying he could be Pep's next Busquets? We could get Weigl for half that

I'd go up to 40m

He's a good CB (Martinez is even worse than Pellegrini) who could become an excellent CB and DM. He's also HG/English.

Stones along with Gundogan and Isco could become our Busquets, Xavi, Iniesta

Whether it'd work in the PL, esp. away, is another matter (Dinho can come in) but both Gundogan and Isco remind me of Xavi and Iniesta and Stones has the skillset to be coached the Busquets role (it'd also allow him to play knowing he's not the last line of def and he'd be able to slot in at CB if we have injuries there), and who better to teach him than Pep?

All 3 probably wouldn't cost much more than 1 Pogba

CBs next season, for me: Kompany, Laporte, Otamendi, Denayer (RB), Stones (DM)
Stones should be our Pique. Will get our Busquet later or just play our Fernandihno.

Chelsea will rival City for John Stones (21), increasing Everton's chances of getting their £50m valuation. [Times]

£50m, fucking hell.

Personally I think we should avoid the kid like the plague. Sure he is English and he has potential but for 50 million when we have Denayer and Adarabioyo coming up I don't think it is wise to spend that kind of money on him.

Is he going to be very good? Yes. Ever worth 50 million? Not in 50 million years.

Of course he'd be worth £50m.

You'd be getting a CB for a decade, he'd comfortably be worth that amount.

Stop worrying, our record of signing defenders is second to none. How many clubs regret not shelling out £100m on Otomendi and Mangala?

Just so there's no doubt, Mangala is the worst pound for pound signing we've ever made. (Although Sterling is a close second)

Dinho not really suited to that role, he doesn't have the passing game. It'd mean Gundogan playing there and I'd prefer him a little further forward most of the time

You are certainly entitled to that opinion but I feel he would be here for 2 years and found out and everyone would be slagging him off as poor and we would strugle to sell him off.

We should go ahead and pay 50mn.
At least it will stop the carping fans complaining about the 49mn spent on the player who has done most in our squad to help us to The CL semi.

I actually think we'll get him now for some reason...he's English he's a ball playing centre half and as someone said everywhere he's worked (Barca and bayern) the first team always has a lot of players from the national team if that makes sense

I.e bayern have Neuer boateng gotze rode Lahm muller etc

If stones comes to us we'll have hart stones sterling Delph and Roberts...

i think he has been mismanaged this season just like the other defensive players at everton because for me it looks like not one defensive player has consistently performed well this season. it's not like martinez is famed for his rock solid defensive organization.

i also think in the modern game when a player wants to leave it's probably best to give in to the player otherwise you run the risk of him not playing for you or losing a little or even a lot of interest in the club.

stones put in a transfer request last season so he wanted to leave so i just wonder how much the continued talk of him leaving to either one of us or chelsea has affected him.

i don't think everton can demand 40m now, more like 25m.

stones has great potential but you have to wonder who he is learning his craft from at everton, certainly not martinez. has played most of this season as if he didn't want to be at goodison and who can blame him. his progress will stagnate and regress at everton and sad though it is i hope he leaves for his own ambition.

Just the kind of defender that would thrive under Pep. Good on the ball and can defend very well. Going through a flat spot over the last 6 months but that isn't uncommon in a young player and may also be unsettled due to the speculation about his future. Sign him up.

If Stones was ours and playing the way he is now he'd be out the door. Just like Nastasic, Boateng, Savic, etc before him.

I mean ive yet to see him put in an outstanding performance in his career. He'll never be 'world class', a half decent premier league CB yes..But among the elite? Just no.

Isco or Pogba can play further forward, or even Silva/Nasri if they can get healthy. Dihno has the pressure skills by the way
stones have no potential he's shit simple.

u can find better defenders the same age in the championship smh
With the same ball skills? Name 3. Scratch that. Name 1.

WC CBs are often a function of playing on preforming teams. Pique is "WC" yet Mangala is a better 1 v 1 defender. Pique is "WC" CO his team plays great and he is a good footballer. If Stones goes to Barca, he'll be WC. Folks forget Piwue couldn't get a sniff at United, Pep brought him and his ball skills to Barca and the rest is History.
