Surprised Chelsea aren't back in.It was you who said we had got rid of the competition. My query was, was there any competition in the first place?

Well according the various media reports he was well coveted at the beginning of the window and now it is only us in the running for him.
So either the media were lying and no other club was interested in him. Or our concrete interest has put other teams off trying to sign him.
fairy snuff. I wasnt aware there was any.Well according the various media reports he was well coveted at the beginning of the window and now it is only us in the running for him.

I'm surprised Mourinho isn't still interested, or at least that the media haven't said he is.Surprised Chelsea aren't back in.
There would have been plenty of interest but if him and his agent have said i want Manchester city then said interest from other clubs would have faded away rather quickly i would presume.

I think signing Bailly put an end to that.
You don't spend £30 million on a back up defender and Smalling is the best defender in the PL don't you know.
Good shout actually. However, I don't think the Glazer's would sanction £50m on top of £100m for Pogba. Maybe that's the hold up, Stones has been told by the Rags to wait another year and he can join them...!!I'm surprised Mourinho isn't still interested, or at least that the media haven't said he is.
LOL.and Smalling is the best defender in the PL don't you know.
Chelsea know his heart is set on City and Pep but there's an impasse on the fee and the structure of payment.Surprised Chelsea aren't back in.

I have probably watched Denayer a dozen or so times over the last two years, and for Stones you could probably double that. My argument isn't that Denayer is better, my argument is that we don't know who is the better fit out of the two to play in our set up, so to spend 50m at the expense of an equally promising player just seems ludicrous. How many times did you watch him play last season?
Your quite right we don't know who is a better fit, but I did hear that Pep Guardiola bloke isn't a bad judge.I have probably watched Denayer a dozen or so times over the last two years, and for Stones you could probably double that. We are buying based on potential with no actual track record of showing enough patience to persevere with a defender unless he hits the ground running. Kompany is probably the only centre half of the last 6 or 7 years who has been a proper mainstay for longer than 18 months (barring injuries). So you will have to excuse my pessimism when it comes to me expecting us to show patience with a young kid, who was in and out of a midtable side last season, while we are trying to compete on four fronts. And you will have excuse my bewilderment at us spending 50m on the privilege when we have a player of similar age, ability and reputation playing in his exact position already.

Course he can be wrong, but I think we know enough about him to know he will have had a good look at Denayer and my guess is he will keep him here as our 4 th centre back , but if he doesnt it may be a mistake but it wont be because he hasn't bothered looking. I think the reason we seem to be out of the fullback market is from what he has seen from Angelino and Maffeo. He may judge both equally & or be wrong, like he was with Ibrahimovic & several other Barca signings.
Personally I don't object to Stones, if we also have a look at Denayer & see what he can do. If we ditch Denayer without having a look first, it's a fucking stupid move, Pep or no Pep.

i dont get this 50mil price tag, who dreams these figures up, that puts him in the bracket of the best in the world and hes done nothing yet to suggest hes that.
when we won at everton dzeko made him look very ordinary indeed
