Bit weird we're signing these top players and they're gonna be playing in those shit kits all year
Yep. Fuck getting the players to buy into his vision, the fans will be harder to win over. A couple of mistakes at the back and the knives will be out! It's the sound I most hate in football: the oohs and aahs of doom merchants when the ball is passed around at the back. This has held back English football for decades and I hear shouts of "Get rid!" at kids' matches every week.
Hopefully, Pep will change this attitude for ever in this country and Stones will help him to do it.
We'll find out this season. I'm in the 'he is' camp. Also I think Kompany confidence when on the ball has taken a serious hit the last 2 years. But know one likes to talk about it.
Watching the new Inside City of Stones's first day makes me like him even more. So down-to-earth and humble. He's destined to be a fan favourite. Anyone who hasn't seen it, I'd recommend checking it out on the YouTube channel. If you're unsure about his personality this video will probably change your mind.
Stones also has that innate leader quality. He oozes it. I have been in the minority on this one but I don't think Kompany's reading of the game is outstanding. I think at his athletic peak, he was so dominant that everything else just worked effortlessly. In the last 2 years or so, his game reading has been ok. Not exceptional. I don't rate the current Kompany as highly as most do. I reckon most often conflate the 2010-2012 Kompany for the current one. I differentiate btw the 2. I thought the Kompany of 4 years ago was the absolute best defender in the world and only had 1 equal in Silva. The current Kompany I don't think of as a top 10 CB. Just a good CB who cant stay healthy.Far superior on the ball, that won't be his problem... Kompany has that brilliant quality of being a leader, if it rubs off on stones then he'll be very special. Kompany is also outstanding at reading the game...
