Cant beat these 2 for a bit of OTT....For me Springstein always conjured up a story while Steinman conjured up an teenage opera.

It was the use of E Street band members on Bat Out of Hell that drew me back to Springsteen.

I have never much cared for Elton. His music is fine, but something about his voice grates for me. His and Bernie Taupin's song writing is of course excellent.
However, my favourite of Taupin's output are the songs he wrote with Alice Cooper for his 'From The Inside' album. (It tells the story of his time in an asylum, or 'rehab' as they like to call it nowadays.
Songs are about his own personal demons, plus ones based on characters he met in there. And what songs they are too. Ranging from really sad, to dark and funny too. It's my favourite Alice album.
