I'd buy Terry but £300k a week is just plain wrong which is probably what it is anyway knowing the Sun. No doubt with all his bonuses, endorsements, England money, wages and image rights he'll probably be on £300k already!

Probably most of his image rights will be with Umbro.

Re: £300 grand a week for terry..£40 mill bid.

So could this be our back 4 next season???

Bridge, Lescott, Terry, Ned

An all English back 4... might make Capello stand up and take notice as these guys would develop one HELL of an understanding playing together every week.

After spending nearly 12 hours on here yesterday and virtually getting divorced, im back for more!

For me this bid has got legs and here is why.

Dont get too caught up in his wages guys, i think that City and Mr Cook are looking at John Terry and possibly see him as the guy who will be the face of City/Umbro for England/Europe.

Cooky is the man when it comes to making huge and i do mean huge amounts of money out of someone's profile and having a guy like John Terry, already sponsered by Umbro, the England Captain and thus universally known, not only makes this a very sound buy on the footballing front but also a very sound buy on the marketing front. Its all about raising our global profile.

Terry = England/Europe

Eto'o = African Continent

Robhino/Tevez = South America

The guys in charge of our club lads are very very shrewd and clever and they know that as well as making a successful team its also possible to make a pot load of money as well!

The above is what will attract these players here, money does talk and dont let all this "Mr Chelsea" talk tell you otherwise.

Your post makes sense on a lot of levels, I do think however, that you think that Terrys profile on the continent is higher than it actually is.

Terry is a big star in England, but outside of England he is not even on the top ten list of famous footballers imo.

Im with you mate but as the England Captain, the potential for marketing is there.

Re: £300 grand a week for terry..£40 mill bid.

160 grand a week seems to be the salarycap at City, thats what Robbie is on, and apperently what we have offered etoo.

If Terry wants to join City he will have to get by on that.

....especially in World Cup year when England are practically assured of place.

I'd like this to happen but I will believe it when I see it personally. If we get Tevez and Eto'o though my perception of this happening may change.

Don't take this the wrong way CTID, but you really make me chuckle. You're like the conscience of the Transfer Forum. That little voice in the back of your head that tells you we shouldn't be going for players like Terry, Eto'o, Tevez etc. Well you could be wrong about this one as well (I know that you hope you are). I've been racking my tiny brain for a reason why Chelsea would come out so publicly and reject City's offer. Everyone knows that 99.9% of transfer deals happen in private, and they could easily have used the meeting they had with GC to tell him that Terry is not going to be sold END OF STORY. In my opinion, this very public statement was for the consumption of their fans, so that when Terry eventually goes, they will be able to say that they did everything in their power to keep him. The ridiculous stories suggesting that City have offered £300,000 a week in wages is the next stage in this game. My guess is that City will allow this lie to go unchecked because we know that we have to allow Chelsea to save face, and if they can spin the line that they fought to keep Terry, but that we BTOOTW, this may go some way to appeasing their fans.

As has been said before, the manner of Chelsea's statement, its context, timing and format - say to me that something is up.
