As has been said before, the manner of Chelsea's statement, its context, timing and format - say to me that something is up.

I'd like this to happen but I will believe it when I see it personally. If we get Tevez and Eto'o though my perception of this happening may change.

Don't take this the wrong way CTID, but you really make me chuckle. You're like the conscience of the Transfer Forum. That little voice in the back of your head that tells you we shouldn't be going for players like Terry, Eto'o, Tevez etc. Well you could be wrong about this one as well (I know that you hope you are). I've been racking my tiny brain for a reason why Chelsea would come out so publicly and reject City's offer. Everyone knows that 99.9% of transfer deals happen in private, and they could easily have used the meeting they had with GC to tell him that Terry is not going to be sold END OF STORY. In my opinion, this very public statement was for the consumption of their fans, so that when Terry eventually goes, they will be able to say that they did everything in their power to keep him. The ridiculous stories suggesting that City have offered £300,000 a week in wages is the next stage in this game. My guess is that City will allow this lie to go unchecked because we know that we have to allow Chelsea to save face, and if they can spin the line that they fought to keep Terry, but that we BTOOTW, this may go some way to appeasing their fans.

Give him a break, on 1 hand he wants big names for City cos he wants them to do well. CTID just doesn't want them in this transfer window.

WHY?

Cos he has to give the below to Stevie Ireland's charity if they do, if they dont sign then its me thats giving the below away.

Re: Chelsea reject Terry offer [Merged]

Why has terry not said anything? is it because he distanced himself last time we were linked or is it because he's interested?

Imo it's very strange and i wouldn't bet against ssn breaking "ssn understands John Terry has expressed a wish to talk to manchester city"

Surely he's been prompted by chelsea to say something i mean ffs he's the club captain. The longer no statement his made the more of a chance we have imo.

Can one print that off?

Re: £300 grand a week for terry..£40 mill bid.

Think we have to have some limit on our wages, our best player has just signed up for another five years on (if papers are to be believed) 60,000-80,000 a week wages after stating that he wants to stay at this club all his career, has shown a willingness to train and improve like no other person in the club.. Think it would be a bit of a snub to bring in lots more players on more than double his wage..

160k is a lot of money and I know footballers have shortened careers compared to most, but 300 a week would seem excessive even for our owners

Re: £300 grand a week for terry..£40 mill bid.

Terry will be on about 120k a week at Chelsea with 3 years left on his deal taking him upto 31 years of age.

IF he signs for City he will be on 160k per week on a 5 year deal taking him upto 33 years of age.

add to this that Umbro will be creaming themselves on their star English player wearing Umbro at club and country level week in week out - this will result in a much improved sponsorship deal for him to add to the chunky salary.

i would be surprised if JT wasn't extremely interested in talking to us......

Imagine the conversation between Cook And JT....

Well John you will get the £160,000 a week for playing but listen to this i have a few ideas....

The John Terry foundation, a lasting legacy........

Umbro would like to design a clothing range, The John Terry collection.......

On and On and On.........

Tempting? I think so.
