Do you think Ade and Tevez actually came to City for a "fresh challenge"? I'd hope not.

Course not, they came to City for the same reasons that Drogba, Robben, Essien, Cole, Carvalho, Mikel, Bridge, SWP, Parker, Ballack, Shevchenko, Kezman (remember him), Johnson, the list goes on...moved to Chelski in Roman's early years...

Lets get one thing straight, the idea of the modern day footballing mercenary...it's pointless. They are professionals who are looking for the best deal they can get because their professional lifespan is much shorter than that of people in other jobs...

It's a hollow accusation which supporters cling to, and which the media reinforce when it suits them...

Bit of a non sequitor there - he "doesn't strike you as the mercenary type" and you know what they're like, and yet if he comes to City it's because he's money grabbing? Could you not concede that after that long at Chelsea he might be feeling a bit stale, and would relish the opportunity to be somewhere different, with the challenge of turning a mid-table team into a CL side?

Saying he "doesn't strike me as the mercenary type" is just my personal opinion of him. I don't know if he is or not, so I'm just going off of his history with the club. If he does leave, then wouldn't money be the obvious motive? Why leave a team that practically guarantees a semi-final CL appearance year in and year out for a mid-table team? It just does not make any sense.

so your man roman should pay less wages say....10 grand a week to each player and they will stay because chelsea are a big club with loads of history...... ?(not)

You know what eventually happened to the Roman Empire, eh?

Beware a knife in the back, when you least expect it....

Haha, great shout mate! When that rocks up in at least one of the tabloids tomorrow we'll know where they got the inspiration!

There are better centre backs around for us to go for are there? Care to humour me, and name a few?

Vidic is for sure. I'd say Rio Ferdinand is as well. Puyol is better on his day as well as Alex in my opinion. JT's main stregnth is his leadership skills.

Why do you think Hughes wants to sign him? To galvanise the team. That is why Terry is so valuable to any club.

All the talk of money is overshadowing one of the main reason's that could see Terry in our shirt! For me the biggest draw for Terry would be the "John Terry Foundation" that we will help Terry set up if he joins. I've followed Terry closely for years and he does do alot for Charity outside the usual football club visit's to hospitals etc. We are known as a charitable club (Millions raised for the new childrens hospital, shirts given to Stevie Ireland's charity to be sold etc). IMO this could be the difference between staying at Chelsea and coming to us. We can offer everything he wants financially but also everything he wants way from the game too

Of course there is a chance of him leaving, but I wouldn't say it's a 'good' chance. I'd say it's more of a 'slim' chance.

Again, if we offered Terry an improved contract do you believe for a second that he wouldn't take it?

But it will be interesting to see Chelsea's reaction to a 3rd bid (presumably £40m). It certainly does come to a point where the offer on the table will be looked at considerably - especially considering Terry's age and injury problems. Still, I believe he will stay put.

If Abramovich said we will give you more money but I don't think we can afford any more signings during this transfer window, would Terry want to stay?

Well the club is still actively searching for a 'marquee signing' so I don't see this being a plausible scenario.

I've never understood other fans coming on this site, something which Ive noticed happens a lot now. It usually descends into a meaningless brawl with niether side taking any credit. However, its interesting to get the view of the chelsea fans on the Terry debate.

For what its worth I have no idea how it will play out, but if he does come, it will be the most significant signing of them all.
