Exactly, so why would Terry be any different then?

You were doing good with "course not" till you descended into an ad hominem argument. A lot of those players were young when they arrived at the club, and the majority on that list are still with us. The ones that couldn't cut it have since been released (like SWP) other than Robben who also left us for money. The Portuguese contingent came because of Jose and Ballack was on a free. Just sayin'

Robben left you for money?

C'mon, he went to a bigger and more successful club with the largest European history. Even our out of town neighbours had to concede that one this summer.

All those players moved to Chelsea because Chelsea were the nouve riche in town handing out outlandishly large transfer fees and wages? Much like City are now?

Maybe Terry will move for similar reasons?

Maybe Ade and Tevez moved for similar reasons?

However, it's also totally conceivable that the players I quoted moved to Chelsea for various reasons, and the larger pay packet, although being part of that, was not the primary motivating factor...

makes me laugh people who say wobbly gob is a better player than terry, he is in me hole.

Any centre back who's first instinct is to back off is a liability.

Just cos baconhead paid 30 million for him doesn't make him a good defender. I'd have Terry, Dunnie, Hyppia, Carragher over the likes of wobbly gob and Woodgate 100% of the time

Vidic is for sure. I'd say Rio Ferdinand is as well. Puyol is better on his day as well as Alex in my opinion. JT's main stregnth is his leadership skills.

True, I'm actually surprised City didn't make a play for Ivanovic. I think it's because Terry is more than just a player, but also a symbol (England captain) and leader as well.

Correct. The players mentioned are all top players. We could argue all day about whether they are better or worse than Terry, or whether United/Barca would be willing to sell, but one thing is for sure, Terry is the inspirational leader that Hughes wants out there on the pitch. None of the other players have this vital ingredient and Terry has it in spades. The players we have signed plus a couple of defensive signings could make us a definate threat to the top four, but if we were to get Terry we could cause a major upset this season.

Steady as she goes this season , if our best players gell quickly we could be nuisance value to the top 4 of last year for sometime but if they don't we will be 5th or 6th at best.

That is exactly what it is, please dont think we dont know that there are other defenders out there at least on a par with him.

Spot on. Have to say, would still love to see him in the City Blue. IMO, as with other posts, it's 50-50 at the mo. If we don't get him at least we have been taken seriously on this one and seriously shit Chelski up!!

Ancelotti seems to think this will be resolved within the next week and sees Terry staying at Chelsea. I hope its sorted soon because if he isn't coming then we need to go after out other targets.

He sure did.

He and his dad were trying to hold the club to ransom by threatening to leave if he wasn't on JT and Lamps' wages.

It has been well documented that he left solely on the basis of wanting to earn more cash. Playing for Madrid was just an added bonus.

Do you think Ade and Tevez actually came to City for a "fresh challenge"? I'd hope not.

Course not, they came to City for the same reasons that Drogba, Robben, Essien, Cole, Carvalho, Mikel, Bridge, SWP, Parker, Ballack, Shevchenko, Kezman (remember him), Johnson, the list goes on...moved to Chelski in Roman's early years...

Lets get one thing straight, the idea of the modern day footballing mercenary...it's pointless. They are professionals who are looking for the best deal they can get because their professional lifespan is much shorter than that of people in other jobs...

It's a hollow accusation which supporters cling to, and which the media reinforce when it suits them...

You seem to forget that those players came to the club that was already on the rise. Sure, they wanted money but the club's ambition was already backed up by performances on the pitch. Even before Roman arrived we have consistently finished in the top six for several years, won a couple of FA Cups and a League Cup and had a few big names associated with the team like Gullit,Vially,Zola,Desailly etc.

We were already in the CL when Abramovich bought the club which made a big difference, so even the first wave of signings in 2003 knew they will have a chance to play in Europe's top competition. Out of the players you mentioned Drogba,Kezman,Robben & Carvalho joined the team that has finished second in the league and reached CL semis and Sheva,Ballack,Essien & Mikel came to us after we already won the league.

Surely you can see the difference between doing that and leaving clubs like Arsenal and United to join City after the season you've had.

Hughes, is not a risk taker, one simply has to look at his management team to see that, for some reason(and as fans of Chelsea you will know, perhaps more than most why)Hughes seems to trust Terry could do the job he has in mind better than anyone else.
