For me its always seemed a very likely transfer. We haven't gone back in yet though with a 3rd bid so all talk of him signing an improved contract will surely wait till then if he wants to milk us or Chelsea for all he can get.

The media have all latched onto a story that is questionable at best as his silence is no longer deafening but definately boring.

This may in effect play out much like Gerrards dalliance with Chelsea did a few years back, however I dont think Terry would be forgiven as quickly as his england colleague was should he stay.

My moneys on City !.

Oh great, first sign of Terry staying with Chelsea and suddenly he's a c***. If circumstances change and he signs for us he's quality and the best defender in the world no doubt! Shallow in the extreme. The guy has to do the best for him and his family, end of. If that means he signs for us and enhances our team then great, if not we move on.

im now of the opinion that this deal is completely 50/50, theres no concrete evidence each way...

chelsea players seem to be saying he'll stay, a couple seem to be preparing everyone for his departure, and JT says absolutely nothing...

either way im not fussed about this deal, if we get him amazing! ill be made up, if we dont ill be more than happy with lescott and ned starting at the back against Blackburn!

What can not be true is what the papers are saying - that he will stay because Chelsea have 'agreed' to consider / discuss a new deal - Terry has taken much flak because of his stance to use the CITY offer to leverage a new much improved contract - he would not throw that away without the deal being sorted out in terms of £'s and years

But if he has been told 5 years at £170k - he might have said OK - but he will not drop this without commitment from Chelsea

But guys - we have to get used to it - some players, e.g. Etoo (perhaps Terry) will use CITY's interest to better their positions with their clubs - others, e.g. Tevez will come - but a couple of years from now - we will have to have a very large stick to beat them back with

I don't agree. Terry has not done anything wrong really. He hasn't said a word in public, he hasn't slagged Chelsea off, he hasn't laughed off the idea of joining City which, to be truthful would have happened a few years ago. My opinion is that he is using City to get more cash from Chelsea, but this happens all over the place, in any job. Until he comes out and says what he's gonna say, I'm gonna wait to make my mind up about him.

(Just read that back and it sounds like I'm a Chelski fan....!)

If that's the case, he's a **** and i'd say everything in my last post stands.

Ireland is City through and through (like Terry)

Ireland has stated many times, sometimes unprovoked that he loves City and wants to stay until he retires (much like Terry)

Now, if Liverpool came in for a bid for him, and he went all quiet whilst the papers helped either a/ Manouver him a deal to Liverpool and make his position untennable at City or b/ Publically negotiate him a new contract, i'd say he's a **** too.

It doesn't matter what other people do, these two players have set thier stalls out from day 1, they've let it be known they want to be thought of as the last of an extinct breed of loyal footballers; Terry's behaviour has exposed him for what he is; more concerned about his financial pecking order amongst his peers than all the shite he's spouted about loving football over the years.

It's interesting when you look at it from the other side, like you've used Ireland as an example, good point of view. But I still stand by and agree with a previous poster that Terry must be considering his and his families future. We don't really know what's going on, what's been said behind closed doors, hence all the press speculation and change of stance. So all I was saying was until the mist clears, I wouldn't want to brand him as anything (may be a different story this time next week! ; -))

Look people, John Terry was never ever going to come straight out and say he was never going to leave Chelsea. He needed us to maintain our interest and he needed Chelsea to think it was a real possibility he could leave.

If he came out at day one and said he was never ever going to leave Chelsea do you think they would offer him a new deal? I don't get why this is so hard to understand.

Terry has clearly used this situation to his own advantage, this is now going to end in one of two ways, he either signs for us, and gets a huge wage increase, or he stays at Chelsea, signs a new contract, and gets a huge wage increase. It's win-win for Terry (who won't give a shit how many Chelsea fans lose respect for him based on this entire saga).

The only reason we're still persuing this is that we must have had some indication from the player (most likely via his agent contacting us) that he'd still consider a move to City if the clubs reached an agreement on a fee. The ball is entirely in Terry's court here.

Frankly i'm not too bothered if he does sign a new contract with chelsea... at the end of the day it means less money chelsea have to spend on new players and an increasingly likelyhood that Lampard and Ballack will want to engineer new deals - costing them even more money.

Until we hear from the player himself though we should reserve judgement... if we get him, great, if not we move on to our next target. Lescott will be a quality addition and maybe him and Onuoha will be enough. If we're still desperate for another defender someone like Hangerlaand would be good.

Bridge is looking much better this season, man of the match for me against kaiser chiefs, and I think Richards will return to form too. Ned will go from strength to strength and improve on last year so all in all we're already looking stronger than last season without new recruits... especially if you consider that we've got Kompany as an option in defence when he's fit again.

It's not over until this mysterious statement is made. At this point in time it's only the papers suggesting this is going to happen in a few days(?) time.

What's clear is that Kenyon et al have flown out to discuss contracts with a number of their players, JT is probably included. Mikel has just signed for another 5 years. I imagine A.Cole is next as he's in his final year.
Whichever way this pans out it's clear that chelsea have been complacent and perhaps a little arrogant in their dealings over contracts, and now they've seen their arses with our sustained effort to sign JT.
They are no longer the billy big bollocks that they have been for the last 5 years, treating other clubs with contempt. That changed 1st September 2009 when kenyon called City over the Robbie deal and he was put firmly in his place.
JT or no JT I'm as positive as ever about our future and our owners long term plans.

The balance of power is shifting ever so surely in our favour.
