Johnson [Merged]

Re: Johnson (merged)

We're not out of this one yet as remember Barry also wanted Champ League football.
It just depends on how far City want to go with this one?

Re: SSN - Johnson bid - us?

He will go to chelsea as he will be first choice and wont have to move far, if at all

Re: Johnson (merged)

Zabaleta is much better defensivley but Johnson better attacking. We don't need attacking because we've got enough goals thank you very much, I'd rather Zab played there.
Either way though, If we Johnson, good signing because he's an excellent crosser, only if we can get a good header of the ball to compliment them.

I really am beginning to think that the City project, Barry signing, future signings, intent being shown...oh and of course the double your money offer is a big draw for players.

I know theres another thread - but i'd be interested in your thoughts.....Portsmouth [richest club in world pt2] have had a bid for Johnson......maybe us or Chelski but he wont go back there........would people be pleased if we got him presumably to replace Richards? I would be dissapointed as for all the big signings its nice to keep home grown players...Micah had a poor season but he's young and will get back to the standard he first set...........I'd rather keep him and bring in CD to play along side him rather than replace him. In saying that I do like Johnson, but I think defensively he's not that strong, more as an attacking full back. SWP can do that on the right.
Slate me or give me your [mature] thoughts please

I'd be delighted if he came to City.

Re: Johnson (merged)

Portsmouth executive chairman Peter Storrie has told Sky Sports News that the club have received a bid for Glen Johnson and that a deal could be concluded imminently.

The England international has enjoyed the best season of his career to date in starring for Portsmouth and in the process has established himself as Fabio Capello's first choice at right-back.

Former club Chelsea, who Johnson left to join Portsmouth, have been credited with making a bid, as have Manchester City and Liverpool, who in some reports are thought to be the front-runners for his signature.

Storrie admits he will not block the player from joining a club that will enable him to play in the UEFA Champions League next season.

He told Sky Sports News: "Glen has had a fantastic season for us and I think he is the best right-back in the country at the moment.

"I've know Glen a long while, from my West Ham days. When I re-signed him (at Portsmouth) we talked things over.
Massive deal

"He said, 'If one of the big four come in with Champions League football, would you stand in my way?'

"I told him I couldn't do that. Providing the deal is right for Portsmouth and Glen then we will look to try and do something in the right way.

"It is very hard to try and hold people back when they have a chance to play in the Champions League. I accept that."

When asked if an offer of between £15million and £18million had been tabled, Storrie replied: "You may not be a million miles away from the mark."

Storrie went on to concede that a deal could be struck imminently, adding: "I wouldn't think it would be too long."

another gareth barry? hope so!

Re: Johnson (merged)

we got barry from under liverpool's noses, and johnson might not fancy going back to chelsea, so I'm still pretty optimistic. also worth pointing out that there are quite a few decent alternatives who might be available this summer if we don't get him...
