He isn't fast enough.

If you think this is bad, just imagine him trying to defend against Messi.

We won't need to next season...

What is it with some City fans that there has to be a whipping boy after every game we don't win by six goals. Lescott has had the shit end of the stick for a couple of seasons now. It's fair point that his distribution isn't brilliant, but his defensive abilities are excellent, And him and Vinny playing together still looks our strongest defensive pairing.
Suarez is arguably Europes on form striker at the moment and apart from one or two things today did fuck all.

He's a decent defender and nothing more. He is the weakest defender we have and his only strength is his ability in the air. He shits himself when he has the ball and a striker is running at him and his lack of mobility, decision making and ball control gets him into trouble time and time again. He's been a loyal servant for the club and I would never say he is a shit player but he also isn't good enough for where we are going as a club. He is good for the games against the strong physical teams but against Suarez or Messi he just doesn't't cut it.

Lescott is one of the best standing tacklers in the league, very few players pass him when directly running at him. His footwork to take a ball off an advancing striker is staggering. He's the strongest player in the team and wins headers for fun. His only weakness his is speed of passing, he's not got the natural passing of silva, but he doesn't need it as long a his team mates know that. The new players will work this out as they are all clever lads and compensate for his small downfall and then he'll never find himself in that position again.
For me he's the best CB behind Vinny we have and should be one of the first names on the team sheet.

Absolue tosh. He's better than Dimichelis, Boyata, Richards and for the PL Nastasic. He was a regular starter in our title-winning season. I'd play him and Kompany in every away game in the PL given the current squad we have. He has decent enough pace, is very good in the air and doesn't dive in all the time. He's solid and that's all we need if Kompany is fit. Obviously if we want to win the CL then he won't succeed at that level. I'd keep him in for now in this tough run of games coming up.

Well said.

Not played regularly and up against one of the form strikers in Europe I didn't think he did too bad. So what if he is not smooth in possession neither are Terry and Vidic and they are excellent defenders. Once or twice Vinney was skinned by Suarez but that doesn't make him a bad player. Lescott is an excellent defender, appears to be a good pro and I will be sorry to see him leave (as I expect him to do this summer)

It was Vinnie being skinned when he tried to get to the ball before Suarez that left us exposed badly i.e left Lescott exposed along with the remaining defenders.

Incredible that someone would start a thread on Lescott when it's probably the nearest to a successful defensive performance we've had all season.

The most on form striker in Europe gets barely a shot in the game & someone starts a thread slagging off one of the main reasons why.

And it was indeed Vinny who kept coming out & missing the ball, leaving Lescott to sort out the mess, but Lescott gets his own thread.

Ridiculously unfair.

Agree, hasn't been playing and knows he's not first choice so under pressure and hard to play with real confidence. Did ok.

All of our defenders were skinned at one time or another today including Zabba several times who also took one for the team with a shocking foul. Liverpool are a good side that average more than two goals a game but not today because as a unit we limited them to only one. For me it is too harsh to single out Lescott as not good enough.

Lescott was more often than not one on one with Suarez who is one of the best strikers in the world but who regularly moved away from Vinnie. Yes he beat him several times but most of the time JL forced him away from goal and didn't give him a shooting chance. Suarez' dark side of diving about and a Rooneyesque obsession with chasing the ref around to give his opinion came about because of his frustration at not getting chances.

One goal conceded is a good job by our back 5. We should be celebrating the job that they did today.

I tend to agree with this. His style of play is a steady, no-risk short pass game. He does have some good qualities, although I just don't think he's mobile or quick-thinking enough for our current style of play. He didn't do such a bad job today, although he gave away a few needless fouls when he was clearly beaten for pace. I'll give him the benefit of the doubt that this may be down to lack of match fitness.

Well said sir. I thought Joleon kept Suarez quiet today. He deserves our applause for a job well done.
