joleon lescott

Thought he had a solid enough game against a very decent team. Of course he has limitations, he's frighteningly shaky in possession at times and is lacking pace but it was good to only have one centre half diving in against the current best striker in the world and getting turned rather than two. MDM has his good points but I'd have been more worried with him alongside VK last night. It was a night for defenders concentrating on their defensive responsibilites and grinding out a crucial result when we weren't at our best.

He's a good defender but I feel not for the style and system Pellers wants to use, he has looked very shaky and I think a large part of that is being asked to do many things differently to how he played for the rest of his career. Much like a midfielder or striker defenders tend to be suited to a particular brand of defending and I feel Lescott isn't suited to this and his age makes me contemplate whether he will be. Nasty is also the same, but hopefully as he is younger he can adapt better.

It's a big concern for me as I like both Lescott and Nasty, lescott in particular was amazing during our title winning season but I don't think he's suited to this new style.

agree with mcfc he is simply not good enough this high line is not suited for him suarez did what he wants with lescott sell him in the summer and go for someone who can properly cope with the high line MP is playing for

Im not being funny but our line is that high there isn't a defender in the world who could recover against a pacy forward line if they turned us whilst so high- SIMPLE

I dont think jolean did too bad tonight and did a damn sight better than demechellis would have done, the way we are playing the 2centre halves are pretty much constantly exposed, a lot of the time we only actually have the keeper and one of the centre halves in our half of the pitch !

And if you actually analyse his performance he hardly missed a pass- check it ??

Im not saying jolean is our answer long term but he's a good lad and at the moment him and kompany are our best pairing.

Lets be realistic for a minute - how many teams hasn't Suarez scored against when he's started ??

How many times has a team limited l/pool to just one goal ??

Anyway, well done to all our lads- thought ferni was immense by the way.

Hope you all had a good xmas and all the best for the new year !!

Him and Kolarovs complete inability to notice or track Raheem Sterling was incredibly dissapointing, the ball in to wingers cutting in from the right is a problem that's hurt us far too often this season in general. If Sterling could control a football then we really would have been punished today.

I don't like criticising our players but it is clear that Lescott and Kolarov are not good enough or fast enough to play for a top team. We are sadly lacking defensively and I really hope that some top quality defenders are available in January.

If we have the same defenders after the transfer window I fear we will come up short in the hunt for trophies this year......no matter how brilliant our front six are.

Not fast enough to play for a top team? WTF? Does being fast make you a good player? Gareth Barry for example isn't the fastest yet shown he is good enough for a top team. Kolarov is our first choice left back at the moment offers us so much more than Gael Clichy.

All about opinions personally I thought he had a pretty good game yesterday Kompany seems to enjoy playing along side him, he's not the quickest not as slow as some on here would have you believe either. He made some good tackles yesterday and when he wins the ball he tends to play it short to the ones on the team who really can play ie most of em, Liverpool were the best team to play us in the league this season with arguably the best striker in the league at the moment and I think we put our best defensive performance of the season in, still I suppose we can still try to slaughter a guy who was part of it.

Always makes me nervous with the ball at his feet.
Solid defender who I like but is not suited to our progressive style of play.

I agree with this. It's a strategy that's going to expose all but the paciest of defenders. I don't mind us playing such a high line though.

This will usually be the case with Joleon. His style of defending is low-risk short passing, relatively slow, safe and steady. I think defenders are expected to offer a quicker direct outlet ball for the style of football Pellegrini wants us to play.

Good game yesterday, don't know what people are moaning about but then we know that some city fans are never happy unless they can find something to moan about,
