No such thing as a fourth CB. He will be in the mix rotating and will play a significant number of games. Let me get this right 30 million for Evans or 60 million for VVD - now that is a hard one.
It sounds an easy question to answer from where me and you are sat.
No one outside the club knows what the financial constraints are on the management team, what the remaining transfer targets are, what the strategy is, nothing, zilch. Yet, we have had a meltdown on this forum of epic proportions. We have had posters questioning the the managers judgement, calls for Txixi's sacking, tearing up of seasoncards, threats of booing and not cheering Evans if he has the temerity to pull on a sky blue shirt. We've had almost 350 pages of "crap, rag, crap, rag". Now we all know that Evans isn't in the top tier of footballers, we know he isn't the long term answer to our defensive problems, we know that ordinarily we could buy the best players out there. The question is why have the club decided to go for Evans of all people, knowing full well that he's a rag and also that we should be aiming for a much better quality of player. Of course we can't answer the question but I think it behoves us to show bit more faith and patience, not to mention gratitude to owners that have lifted us from being the laughing stock of English football and every bodies favourite second team to being on the cusp of joining the elite of European football. If Mansour were ever to read this thread he would wonder at the kind of people we were. It is, of course, a football forum and people are entitled to their opinions but the shrill outrage that has been expressed on here after the transfer window we have had, with more additions to hopefully follow, has led me to seriously question the maturity of some of the posters on this thread.

Maybe just maybe our defenders would look better with a more defensive minded coach. We are an attacking team have been under pellers and pep. So ur defence will look vulnerable if and when the opposition have the ball.

£30m? This can't happen... can it?

Very good

Well done. Most City, fans, though are much more fair-minded than some of the stuff we read here.

Great post couldn't agree more

He has improved and matured since Leaving the scum have you actually watched him at West Brom

Ffs mate he isn't going to be good enough for us in all honesty....how many West Bromwich games do you watch each season ?

I have seen him in bits on motd and seen him when we batter them and he hadn't impressed me.

Don't want him don't need him and hope to fuck we don't sign him

Well Pep wants him, we will almost certainly need him, so let's hope to fuck we actually sign him.

If you don't have great dm's the answer is to buy another attacking midfielder so the ball doesn't get near them
If you don't have great centre backs the answer is to buy another attacking midfielder so the ball doesn't get near them

If we look weak at the back next year don't worry we will sign another attacking midfielder so the ball doesn't go near them.

By 2020 we will have 100% possession and can play our new attacking midfielder in goal when he needs a rest. We will also be able to loan all our defenders out on loan to Italy and save 10% of their wages.

Alternative then please. I'm sure CIty would have rather paid £18m, but this is the same old story with all our transfers

The problem is that I think we need an HG player because Clichy is gone, Delph is clearly going to be off and we would rather not use a squad place for it with another EDS/Academy player if we want to add any further foreign players.

The other problem is that there aren't a lot of options out there available for what Pep is looking for.

- Ball playing centre half

- Can play on the left side/good enough with left foot

- Experienced enough to not have to rely upon a Stones-Nico partnership which was problematic last season and Tosin not ready and can direct the defence

- Someone who can also help teach/model for Stones and further his developmen

- Ideally is HG because we had Bertrand slated as that player but when Alves dissed us we had to alter our plans

- Also doesn't cost more than £25-30m (I'm guessing that's our ceiling), or ideally costs less so we can buy either/both Alexis or Mbappe

- Is fine with being 4th choice, but can challenge Otamendi and Stones to make them work for their places

£30m is quite mad, but not sure what else we are we going to do about this right now. We do need to figure this out. I like Mangala sometimes, but I can see exactly why he is not ideal for our 4th nor is Tosin, who may be loaned out to a Championship level side.

Question will be is whether Pep/Txiki think the price is worth it to fill this need, even if it is wildly overpaying. I think we expected to have to a bit, but were hoping not this much. If we don't and Vinny goes down, our entire season could be doomed. That's how delicate this is, and I get where they are coming from even if you could question our HG player planning over the past few seasons. Delph's injury record has really muffed that up, that's for sure, and that was meant to be a fantastic piece of business for once.

The HG inflation is being combined with a bit of desperation and extra tax on anyone we want to buy.

They have a very tough decision, also including fan sentiments which I am sure they aren't completely naive about, but I think we will just do it and hope it works out. This is what I think Pulis knows, and is why we are kind of screwed here, once again.

Pep wanted and got Bravo too. Turned out well....Pep doesn't have a great track record signing centre halves to be fair.
We all have our opinions about Evans and if he signs I wouldn't be happy but neither would I boo or slag him off at the games...still hoping we don't sign him

Sounds like a case to get rid of Pep. Is that where we're heading?
