Pep and his team are obviously looking to make the addition of a squad player that fits a certain criteria, and ticks the relevant boxes. So,while we'd all sooner a more obvious, younger, superstar type player......It seems that isnt the profile we currently want/require and that all roads lead to this lad.

I guess circumstance has changed our initial strategy in regards our recruitment, subsequently while Evans will not have been on list A or probably even B......i can only trust this decision will not have been made without a great deal of thought.

Leaving aside the price, its a deal that makes sense IF Kompany stays fit. Kompany, Stones Otamendi & Evans is a fairly well balanced group. Evans brings complementary attributes (left sided, cover for left back, can play in a 3) and isn't likely to rock the boat if he doesn't play every week. He's a Pep type player, he's supposedly good in the dressing room.

If Kompany breaks down next month then it will look like a terrible buy.

Clearly, the club are satisfied with Kompany's fitness. They've given him all summer to prove his fitness before bidding for a 4th centre back and must believe that he's done that.

For me the controversial aspect of this deal isnt really about whether Evans is good enough. Its whether the faith in Kompany's fitness is soundly based. Hopefully there is very good reason for the club to believe that Kompany's injury problems are behind him. Hopfully its more than just thinking that because he's made it through a few pre season friendlies and the season opener then everything will be ok.

Earlier in the summer the talk was we agreed to buy Hernandez, then Atletico got their ban and we agreed for next summer. If true then we looked like we were keeping Kolarov then he decided to go. If all that is true then Evans is a stop gap premier leagye experienced Kolarov replacement nothing more than that really. How much we should be paying for that I really couldn't care less.

Keeping Kolarov last season was a huge, hairy mistake which may have cost us the title.

We have had plenty of time.

TBH it doesn't matter one iota what we think of Evans, as far as i'm concerned if Pep wants him and the club see fit to pay the fee asked then so be it. We would all like to see world class players come to the club at a fee WE think should be paid, unfortunately it doesn't work like that. We have to believe that the players coming in are good enough to do the job Pep wants, who they played for previously is irrelevant and they should be given our full support whenever they wear the shirt. That is who we are, that is what we were born to do, let's just concentrate on doing that and leave the rest to the club.

I'll support the **** if he signs.

If he puts a blue shirt on then he gets my support but boy do I have a horrible taste in my mouth!!
Same here. I'm not as madly against it as most. It would feel a lot better if it was for about 10mil. It'd make sense then. Surely fern or yaya could play a role in a back three as good as Evans?

Kolly was our best centre half at times last season

Yeah when we were swanning it.

As soon as it got difficult he was fucking useless. A top player in his position, defending properly & helping look after Stones & Otamendi, could easily have had us level with Chelsea, maybe even in the semis or final of the Champs Lg.

Lescott may not have been the best in his last two seasons with us but he and Vinny in their pomp were one of if not the best cb pairings in the PL. Those who are posting about him not being better than Evans have either a short memory or are trying to change history to justify their support for buying Evans. Or worse.

Lescott would struggle like hell playing the way we do now - even in his pomp. As someone said earlier mangala Mk 2 i.e. great defender, useless with the ball at his feet. I dont want Evans, but I acknowledge in a Pep system, he would be better than Lescott.

We need an experienced left sided CB who is comfortable with playing out from the back.
He fits the bill. Nobody hates rags more than me but some of you flappers need to remove the blinkers. The boy can play. If we sign him he will be an asset.

However, as soon as he makes his first mistake (and there will some - he is human after all) he will have the all the hysteria bollox that crucified good pros in the past -Edghill / Power etc come to the surface.

To be a good defender you don't need to be a fucking Messi! You need to anticipate danger and deal with it with aggression and composure. Pep sees this in Evans and I back his judgement. Cmon blues let's give the lad a chance!

Evans is an excellent, experienced and intelligent footballer more than capable of doing a job for City for the next few years, his positional sense and football brain will help develop Stones and others. Any Blue that thinks this would be a bad move because of his United connections needs to give his, or her head a bloody good wobble.
