Jonny Evans

We need an experienced left sided CB who is comfortable with playing out from the back.
He fits the bill. Nobody hates rags more than me but some of you flappers need to remove the blinkers. The boy can play. If we sign him he will be an asset.

However, as soon as he makes his first mistake (and there will some - he is human after all) he will have the all the hysteria bollox that crucified good pros in the past -Edghill / Power etc come to the surface.

To be a good defender you don't need to be a fucking Messi! You need to anticipate danger and deal with it with aggression and composure. Pep sees this in Evans and I back his judgement. Cmon blues let's give the lad a chance!

It's a pity that United didn't see all the attributes before they sold him 4 years ago for six million. The young lad has really come on since then now he can play hoof football ;)

Amazed this is still even a thing after they've rejected £18m. Its one thing to buy him as a slightly cheaper backup option, but another to actively invest decent money to bring him here.

It's weird how the media are so positive about this, like they're hoping for a huge fail. Wrong thread maybe.

You are simply assuming that. You could be equally as wrong as right
There is no reason to assume otherwise. He lacks pace, is not a particularly talented footballer and is well past his average best. No one would have said let's get Jonny Evans in he will improve us. Anyone who claims they would have is lying.

Now after being completely against this transfer I thought I'd watch the highlights of the home game last season and see how he plays.

'Evans is experienced and senses danger' - unless of course you are Sane and can make yourself invisible.

2nd goal he charges out, sells himself and is a passenger, exactly the same for the third.

Fuck me it's going to be hilarious if Evans and Otamendi start.

What's all this comfortable playing out from the back shite about Jonny? Under pressure he hoofs it and always has.

No mate you're wrong and being unfair to the lad. He has pace is good in possession and is West Brom's capt. everyone has failed to see this previous especially Utd who have been regretting his sale for years. They'd have him back if they could. You need to start seeing the investment here. Even if he doesn't play much he's a snip at 25mil and his intelligence on the field makes him the perfect mentor for stones. Did I mention he is homegrown as well. This is the signing many city fans are most excited about and it might mean that we are signing someone else as well because if it's only 25mil we must have Sanchez in the bag. Wenger wanted him last year, pullis can spot a good defender as well.

mate, I am on your side and do not want him, but there are those much better informed than anyone on here who might be thinking otherwise

I don't know one rag that has regretted seeing the back of him . He was a laughing stock then and he has not improved

He would improve a Stone Otamendi partnership. That was terrible last season. He's cover.

This Evans talk now is boring: "He's good, he's rubbish, he can play from the back. He just hoofs it". Anyone says what they want to suit their opinion.

The facts are that he is a very experienced player, and captain of his club. Ideal player for cover. Better that than none. And an improvement on Kolarov last season, and Demichelis/Nastasic in previous title winning seasons.

I am interested in why we are bidding for Evans now when all our other business was done ages ago. Sanchez is still outstanding but that interest was signposted ages ago. Plans have changed. Why? Have the striker deals fallen through? Or do we think Mbappe is no-go, and therefore we can buy Sanchez and Evans?

This 'Ticks all the boxes' bollocks has certainly gained plenty of traction over the last day or two hasn't it.
That, and he a 'solid' signing seem to be the favourites from the pro Jonny brigade who insist on labelling any naysayers as loons only bothered because of his utd connection.
Well the reality is we are overpaying for a player, a CB no less, with little pace who's easily bullied and not particular great in the air. A player who has never played the system we operate in which is to attack from the back but has instead been involved in heavily defensive set ups for club and country. Being able to pass the ball is all well and good and his experience might help him not to bottle it playing for us like some others in the past, but I'm not having he's the answer to our defensive problems. No fucking way. Do I trust the manager? Yes, completely. Am I going to give him a free pass with all of his signings? No, not at all. People seem to have forgotten on here that you can do both.

Yeah I know we don't get to decide or have the coaching badges etc but I believe that you, me or anyone else is capable of spotting a poor investment and one that is short sighted. If he signs next year we have 3 cbs 30 or 30 plus that's gonna need more money to fix. I don't really rate tosin from what I've seen but he needs games and if he's the best in our academy that's probably an issue as well. We haven't got the cb situation right since lescott left really and I just find the signing of Evans a panic one that is frustrating. I can see it happening though unfortunately.

If he is as bad as you advocate, why are we even considering it - gen question as surely even Pep and his team would see these obvious failings

What price are we talking about today? It was 18m on Thursday, 20m Friday morning and 25m when I went to bed last last night. Have we had another price hike?

He's not bad, he's average and has as many weaknesses as he does 'tick boxes' is the point I'm making.
I'm not going to answer why pep and his team don't see what I do because it's a fucking cop out question from people not willing to think for themselves.

So it's boring when other people want to air their opinion, but you've just added to it.

Maybe the same way we considered ..Rodwell/Sinclair

i doubt Pep is that arsed about Evans..i think he is more interested in Sanchez or Mbappe

Got a feeling this is a club decision--HG squad filler signing

Do you really think Pep would change his mind because of the droolings of hysterical, semi-literate morons on a forum? Kinnell.

No I don't but I'd imagine they would listern to the fans. Look what happened to Figo when he moved to their rivals.

This transfer does not make sense at all. Who ever thinks it does have fuck all knowledge about the game. Anything over £8m for this player is a joke.
