We shouldn't be paying £25m for a backup centre back. If it was £10m then I could accept it.

This. I keep reading he is back up....4th choice etc etc but you dont spend nearly £30M on a player like that before you even think about his wages over the life of his contract!

In 12 months time when he hasn't kicked a fucking ball in anger for us he will be yet another to add to the list ala Delph, Bony etc etc.

Put the money towards landing a genuine number 1 target and go with Tosin because this is just fucking bonkers and im a happy clapper!

Also none of them were HG which makes a price difference. I may be wrong but I suspect we're after a couple more overseas players which has meant that we would need to free up a foreign spot in the squad. That will likely spell the end for Mangala and leave us short of a CB and that CB would need to be a HG one.

I'd rather we went with a cheaper solution too, but when we play 3-5-2, we'd have 4 players for 3 positions so he would inevitably get game time even if Kompany stays fit all season (touch wood)

People need to stop thinking of him as a potential 4th choice cb, there is every chance he starts ahead of otamendi, if we play 3 at the back and everyone is fit I expect him to start. He is naturally left footed, a very solid defender and is comfortable on the ball. If kompany picks up an injury people here are honestly happy with stones, otamendi and mangala? Evans looks to be the best available within our budget vvd is a better defender but he is no where near three times the player evans is.
