Jonny Evans

I agree with this but then who do we target? From what club/league do we target players that will fit with Pep?

Perhaps as has been suggested elsewhere we could just coach what we already have to be better?

The defending v Everton, with Kompany, was fucking useless. It was easy, made difficult.

It would not be so piss poor under George Graham etc. Also the importance of finding top defenders from 'sonewhere' would be paramount.

Because we attack & press, there is no excuse for defending those situations, when it goes wrong, like a bunch of amatuers.

In addition to these well formulated statements I am personally concerned that so far no other top-club seem to have recognised the talent of Jonny Evans. In the time since he left United, other top clubs have bought CB's. Chelsea did it, Arsenal did it, Liverpool did it. And yet I can't recall having seen Jonny Evans being mentioned as a candidate for any of these clubs buying in the position where Evans plays. I assume he could have been acquired for a lot less than the 20+ millions being mentioned today. So why did no one else have an interest in buying him? Could it be because nobody actually thought he had the level to play for them?
I would say that either Pep is a genius who can see something in Jonny Evans that nobody else could so far, or Jonny Evans is in fact playing at "his" level for clubs like WBA and Sunderland - no disrespect. If the latter is the case he seems to be the wrong player to buy for a club who aspires not only to win the Premier League, but to actually compete for the Champions League at the level of Real Madrid.
I could take this argument further by mentioning that also Barca bought CB's in the last couple of seasons, but the thought of Jonny Evans being sold to them is just ridiculous. Yet one should think that he would have been a candidate for a team which still plays (or played until very recently) the kind of football which Pep cultivated and today aspires to recreate with City. But let's leave it at that. If Jonny boy signs I will support him, and I will also be the first to acknowledge if he actually becomes a good player for us. Until then I think there is so much reason for doubt that I frankly do not understand why we would sign him.

Your point re Barca says it all. Pep signed some right shite for them at times but Evans wouldn't have been on his list.

Well we will see if we sign him how he does. One thing for certain he will be 100% concentration mode and to prove himself, he will know how quite a few city fans feel about him.

That is another reason it is a huge gamble.

If it works, brilliant. I'll back him & give him a chance whatever.

But it is a fucking bizarre signing.

I'll just leave this here...

My favourite...
He was out of his depth against fucking MK Dons. Not good enough for this team

D'oh click on it it's a link...

Why? It's a thread from reddit from two years ago. I'm betting that our actual manager. You might have heard of him. Pep Guardiola. He might know a little more than some faceless username on Reddit. What d'you reckon ? Or are we now taking reddit as the gospel in football scouting ?
