Jonny Evans

No I don't think Gibson would be better sportingly and would no doubt be more expensive. He's also unproven, not used to winning, not used to the pressure of winning things etc etc. Smalling is better than Gibson. Sorry if you can't see passed players being a rag or ex rag.

I don't know whether we've had crossed wires. But. I agree. Right now. Smalling is.... Jonny Evans however. Is not by any stretch of the imagination.

WBA forum-

They pay 50M for Kyle Walker but yet only offer 18M for Evans
And so it begins. We'll probably be priced out of a move for Evans.
I don't know if the club value CB's or not but I'd like to think they do. I think they have a decent degree of confidence that Vinnie will be available when we need him. They paid a fortune for Stones and I'm sure they still have high hopes for him, as do I, and as I often point out, Ota was statistically the best CB in the league last season. VVD was second best and I would love to sign him but I'd rather have Mbappe or Sanchez because our biggest problem has been failure to convert chances and, as Billy mentioned, we are intending to be an attacking team.

Edit: don't forget Pep's teams usually have the best defensive record in league and last season we were team that conceded fewest shots on goal.
His teams have had the best defensive record because they have always been far and away the best team in the division and absolutely batter most teams week in week out, not in my view because the actual defence he has put together have been full of great defenders and were brilliantly well organised. A similar thing last year resulted in conceding the fewest shots i.e. We bossed most teams in terms of possession but as our defending was so poor most of those shots were in clear cut chance situations. If kompany stays fit then fine but seems a huge risk to me given his recent record. Not particularly interested in Otamendi's stats they only tell you a small part of things and for me without Kompany next to him, he's bang average on the whole. And I don't see how buying extra attackers changes our chance conversion rate necessarily. We have top quality attackers as it is, I see no reason whatsoever why they can't take more of their chances this season. All only my opinion of course.

People saying 4th choice...We are currently playing with 3 CBs so it kind of makes any back-up 3rd choice(traditionally back-up to the main pairing) and they'd be playing a lot of football.

Nonsense argument. Would Victor Moses get in our side. Would Lukaku? No. Do they do a good job for their teams. Yes.
Fucking hell Lukaku is a top striker who is still improving. Moses might given we only have one left back and he was outstanding last year. Evans is nowhere near the level of them two and we are talking about 18mil!! If that headline popped up with Utd or Chelsea spending that on him you'd have a totally different view as would many others on here who seem to be suggesting 18mil on Evans would be a good bit of business.

Fuck me, at first glance I thought this was on a free. Now I'm hearing we may pay 25m for Johnny Fucking Evans!

What is it with us and spunking money on rank average CB's

Where have you read that!?

I though £18m was bad enough!?

Has the loss to Girona fried Txiki's brain lol!?

Is it opposites day or summat?

Johnny Evans is top of the transfer thread page and Mbappe is sliding down to mid table!!!!

Now call me fickle, but I'm a touch underwhelmed with this manuovre by city....i am now used to us being linked to the creme de la fucking creme of the games players, not the yoghurt de la fucking yoghurt!!

Can someone have a word with Pep please?
