No idea what the price is going to be yet but I definitely hope it'd be not much more than £20m. And again, I know it looks like I'm overly defending this transfer (when it doesn't excite me at all) but Im just shocked at how OTT the reaction has been by some and how little nous they seem to credit our board with.

I would say I think it's slightly oversimplistic to look at that as being double what West Bromwich paid for him though. £20m now buys you what £10m would have got you 4 years ago.
Everyone is entitled to a view and you have as much right to defend it, even if its not a thrilling one(lets face it who gets excited about signing a 4th choice defender!).
I guess it comes down to two things since these guys arrived from Spain(and I'm taking Pep out right now as there is a much smaller base to judge the guy on although I'm sure in retrospect he would like Bravo, Nolito and Danilo money back)their transfer dealing have been mixed, but I would not really expect otherwise that's not a criticism, simply a statement of fact.
Your point on fees is well made, you are right yesterday's 10m is today's 20, so that part will come out in the wash, if he does indeed sign

is this defo happening then? I cant see anything in the media but on this thread it would seem its done and dusted. Is it?

Last I saw we were looking at Maguire at Leicester.

Any ITKs know its done?

Ill be honest,I dint want Evans when it first came out,but if Pep thinks he can do a job,so be it.
Once he puts that shirt on,I'm right behind him,not fucked if he's played for the rags,we've had em before.
That's pretty much my view too. Didn't want him in the summer, but Pep has plenty of credit in the tank due to our position in the league so I'm more than happy to trust his judgement on this one. I just don't see it as a transfer worth getting worked up about either way really, but some people seem to love a bit of melodrama in their lives.

Did you miss the previous 10 years of Jonny Fucking Evans, as well as this season ?

Look, IF Pep wants him, then of course, the fact that the guy is a genius, softens the blow of us signing a defender who has been fairly shit this season & most of the past 10 years.

Maybe Pep sees a particular quality in him & can make something out of him that suits his system.

He will have to, as the evidence suggests JFE is fucking shite.

So shit he’s got a champions league winner’s medal, 3 premier leagues, 2 league cups.....if you want to name a player who the evidence says is shit we need look no further than Mangala.
Would the view of Evans be different if he hadn’t played for the rags?

All I would say is that he has a fair few medals on his chest including a few Prem League titles (spit) so Pep may think his experience could be invaluable in the run in....?

Think we have to give Pep the benefit of the doubt on this one, strange as it is.

You make a valid point.
Another valid point is that our manager is almost certainly a better judge of a player than you or I.

Every manager makes a poor call now and again on a player as you never know how it is going to turn out e.g. Bravo, Danilo. On paper a player may look the right fit but sometimes for whatever reason it does not work out. However, the really good thing about Pep is that he is not stubborn to realise a mistake and resolve it, for example bringing in Eddie. It seems an odd move to me not just because he’s an ex rag, but if Pep thinks he can do a job and he has a plan then we should support him and if it happens I am sure we all will. I must confess having seen Mangala’s recent performances then JFE cannot do any worse.

If for any reason it does not work out Pep will have no qualms about resolving the issue.
