I can't see it personally. I've spoken before about how strange it is the Pep completely avoided playing Bernardo centrally when D.Silva was away with family if he's about to move him inside, and if Gundogan has a good World cup at 27 we're likely to just say "Brilliant! he's finding his Dortmund form, can't wait to see him do this for us next season".

Next summer would make a lot more sense.
Fully agree with the Bernardo bit.

I've got no clue why I've seen so many posts saying Bernardo will be played centrally because he's hardly played there in the absence of other players and also what has he done to show the qualities of being an 8 anyway?

Excellent in tight spaces. Incredible first touch. Great vision.

I think he has all the attributes needed to play centrally.

I'm not saying it will happen, but I don't see why it wouldnt/couldn't if necessary.

Interesting business from City, haven't really spent over 60m for a player and the highest earning players that have arrived under Pep are Gundo/B. Silva at 120k the rest are under that. Jorginho I think will be making 70-75k.

Think we’ll see Bernardo much more often centrally, taking into account the Mahrez signing, which would facilitate a potential gundogan exit. Just my opinion but a good World Cup, with the current market, could see a hefty profit on the 20m outlay. If there’s one thing we should of learned from over the last 10 years it’s cashing in at the right time!

I'm in what seems a minority who agrees with this.

Delph had not played as left back/ with the exception of when he was at Leeds as a very young man I believe.
Therefore given Bernardo's skillset with respect to ball retention I don't think it would be a difficult transition for Bernardo, or be beyond Pep to believe that Bernardo can be a success in Silva senior's position in the near future to long term.

He played centrally against us for Monaco and ran rings round us at times. Bernado is a central midfielder not a natural winger he has a very clever brain which enables him to play anywhere on the field attacking wise. His versatility will be shown a lot more this season coming I’m sure of it.

He's spent the majority of his career as a winger so it's only natural to assume he wouldn't be a number 8 or play more central. Totally understand the reasoning but imo he has the attributes to be playing more centrally.

Delph spent most of his career as a midfield player but has become the best left back in the league. This without having any attributes to do so previously, imo.

If Pep can do that to someone like Fabian then converting Bernado into a central player will be a piece of piss.

Jorginho: «With Ancelotti I could stay»
The Napoli midfielder, from the withdrawal of the National team, opens to the reconfirmation: "I owe so much to Sarri but the arrival of such an important winner changes everything ..."

FLORENCE - Jorginho dazzled on the ... via del Napoli , thanks to the arrival of Ancelotti . The blue midfielder from Coverciano sends a clear message, despite the fact that he has been talking about his next transfer to Manchester City:"It was a surprise for everyone, it was a great blow for Napoli. Ancelotti is a coach who won wherever he went. It can give something more. I say thanks to Sarri for what he did, for me in particular. I came from a difficult year, he gave me so much, he helped me to improve. But the arrival of Ancelotti can improve us all. I'm not thinking about the market ... though. Certainly the arrival of Ancelotti, of one so big as to make me rethink everything, and that's what I'm doing. Fear of the flight of so many companions? It's a big word but the Napoli group is extraordinary, ready to give everything, to make sacrifices for the shirt; the important thing is that those who arrive are willing to do the same " . Then the admission: "No, Ancelotti has not called me yet ...

I can see Bernardo playing as one of the front 2 in a 3-5-2, clearly Pep wasn't keen to put him in the midfield 3 as he continually picked Gundogan in there instead.
