They also give players security. If we start having the tail wag the dog, then the game is lost imoI sometimes wonder if good players should just sign one year rolling contacts. Sure there is a gamble they could be injured or their form dip, but they would not be held against their will when they want to move on. It would also stop people whining about huge transfer fees as it would effectively kill them dead.
People may say contracts give clubs security but do they? Once a player wants out his heart and head isn't at a club anyway.
