Vidal is already in Naples. This could be a happening quite soon.

Hope this is a good sign Jorginho deal close.....rumours are Vidal could be a replacement for Hamsik tho....Hopefully that isnt the case as difficult to see them sell both their rocks in midfield...

Honestly, when you look at the fact that Fern was recruited in 2013, fully five years ago, for £34,000,000, I'm not too shocked by an asking price of £60,000,000 or so for this guy, if he really is the quality that Pep and his team think he is. His passing stats are absurdly good, just for a start. Taking account of fee inflation over the past five years, it just doesn't seem too much for a player occupying a position as important as holding midfielder. Since Fern came, we have seen just how important that role is, and what part it's played in two league titles. Really hope we can get this one sewn up, and early, like Bernardo last year. In many ways it seems to me the most important transfer of the summer.

He's not really a like for like replacement for Jorginho, but I suppose with Ancelotti in and Sarri out, Napoli aren't going to play the same way.

Edit: apparently it's fake

Of course. But we wren't expanding when Liverpool scored their first at Anfield, nor any of the 3 Utd scored, we just defended, like shit.

And the likelihood is, Jorginho will also suffer, in the same duff periods of games, unless the team plays with more authority on the occasion it goes wrong.

Against Liverpool, we were shite. It wasn't one player, or even the tactics, it was just pure, communal shite. They could have scored literally any kind of goal, because we completely caved in, as a team, every mistake in the book, was unfolding.

Against most others, we were at worst good, to incredibly brilliant & got away with the shite bits, by minimising them & blew them away.

We were also totally shite, early on, away v Napoli, where Jorginho was brilliant. But we then stepped it up & fucked them over including Jorginho and suddenly, from being a footballing genius, he was the invisible man, becaese we moved too fast for him & for Napoli, & they just ceased to exist, when KDB etc stepped it up a gear, just as Sothampton's midfield suddenly disappeared when City stepped it up for a short while there.

When we are functioning as a team, as we can, we are already irresistable now.

It's when those standards drop & we are failling to answer it, that we have to be more pragmatic (even Pep went for that at Spurs).

Jorginho is a huge talent, but he can't do it on his own when that happens, just like Fern, he will need help.

We can improve on that, irrespective of signings. It is our biggest weakness & it's not a necessary weakness just because we play football, it's just people getting elementry stuff wrong.

Perfect appraisal.

I would argue Jorginho AND Fernandinho would eliminate a few more of those brain farts, when coupled also with KDB's running?

The margins for error will always increase when Gundogan is in the midfield three - the defeats correlate with his inclusion. Much more effective arriving on the edge of the penalty area, doesn't have the engine or appetite for screening.

We've come to appreciate so much about Fernandinho's defensive capabilities since he was here, but he plays a completely different way from his time with Shakhtar.

He could be a very potent weapon breaking between the lines if he's got licence to. You know his engine will also ensure he gets back in and reinforces Jorginho's options to collect from the central defenders.

Plus one on this, when Gundogan played the press stopped and the hunting in packs to get the ball back stopped, thus giving the scousers lots of opportunity to build up a head of steam and come at us which no other team we have faced last season had the opportunity to do so.

Which is bizzare because Gundogan played for a Dortmund side under Klopp who pressed the living shit out of everything, including us at home.
